    M50nv G240 Starter Issues

Ok so here is one for the guys who do these swaps alot. I have an 84 325E. Swapped in an M50nv from a 92 525i. I have a green label getrag 240 and the m20 flywheel and clutch from the old eta engine (M20B27) Im using a starter for a 87+ m20b25 part number SR43X this is the gear reduction starter not the direct drive. It seems to fit fine but the spur has trouble engaging the flywheel and when it does engage it grinds like there isnt enough backlash. (grinding noise and the starter will stay engaged unless i turn the motor backwards by hand to free it up). Im hoping my starter is just DOA and Im not missing something. Oh and My flywheel is machined and IS NOT contacting any part of the oil pan or other parts it shouldnt. Any ideas?

Always match your starter to your flywheel. If they aren't matched, don't be surprised when things don't work right.
