Hello everyone, new to the forum, my names spencer, and I've just purchased an s52/transmission (5 speed) from a 1998 m3, I've got the 5 series oil pan, oil pickup and dipstick tube, as well as a 325ix brake booster and master. I've got the project orca manual, but it appears to be for a car with a round c-101 plug, my cars a 1984 318i, as far as I can see, there is no plug, so I guess my question is, what am I doing for wiring, I've got the engine harness and the computer, also, what drive shaft do I need If I'm going to run (either a 4.10 small case from a 318is or a 2.93 LSD medium case) also, iv read I can get an m42 radiator and not have to worry about an expansion tank cause it's built in. Am I missing anything here? I just use the tranny mount that's already in my car (getrag 240) right? Also I know I need 5 series motor mounts. I plan to do the m50 intake swap, what do I need for that? Thanks so much in advance, i just can't find anyone that's done this swap with this configuration!

check this out: http://wedophones.com/Manuals/BMW/19...g%20Manual.pdf
your car has a square c101 plug (instead of the later cars, like the one in the Project Orca manual, which have round c101's)
you'll still be able to look through the manual for the corresponding functions (alternator charging, VSS, coolant temp, fuel pump relay, etc) and their locations on your c101, but they will be different. learn the ETM, it is your friend!
for the DME, you'll need to research flashing options. i assume you're staying OBD2 (and you should!), so look for OBD2 flash tunes that get rid of things like the secondary O2 sensors, and other OBD2 emissions nonsense. companies like Technica Motorsports and The Racer's Market, as well as a few members here, offer this service.
driveshaft, use any of the following, from priciest to cheapest: all E30 M3, 96+ E36 328is/M3, 87-88 E30 325e. you're looking for the 96mm (big) guibo versions.
rear diff, definitely use the 2.93 out of those two options. the E36 ZF is non-overdrive and a 4.10 would be way too buzzy. best ratios are likely 3.15, 3.23, 3.25, or 3.46, depending on your driving style. you can find those ratios on various BMW models from e24 6-series to Z3's.
you can use the M42 radiator and many have, but it'd be better to run an E36 rad for bigger cooling capacity, especially considering the lack of a mechanical fan.
mounts, for the engine mounts use e28 m5 or any aftermarket options (AKG are pricey, Condor Speed Shop solid mounts look nice), trans mounts use e21 3-series rubber mounts or aftermarket poly/solid options.
the M50 manifold can be adapted using various hose fittings and whatnot or buying a kit like that from m50manifold.com. the kit is probably not necessary if you don't keep the OBD2 cyclone separator and secondary air pump. you will need to move the OBD2 throttle body to the M50 manifold.
lastly, because my fingers hurt from all that typing.. search and research! there are members here who have s52's and m50's in their early 318i's, so you aren't alone. and good luck!

Best way to do wiring is send your DME and harness to Dave at Markert Motorworks and then plug it all together once it comes back to you. Done.
Yes, you can use the M42 rad, and E28 motor mounts. I would suggest the 2.93 diff for more useful gearing for the power level and it will be stronger than the small case.
Just a heads up about the iX booster that I didn't know when I tried to use it, if you keep the spacer section between the booster and the firewall you will not be able to use the reservoir that came on the master, you'll need a remote mounted one. You can redrill/slot two of the holes on the firewall and shorten/tap the booster rod to mount it directly to the firewall and then the master and reservoir will be far back enough to not interfere with the throttle body and intake tube. For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!Originally posted by mbonanniI hate modded emtree, I hate modded cawrz, I hate jdm, I hate swag, I hate stanceyolokids, I hate bags (on cars), I hate stuff that is slowz, I hate tires.
I am a pursit now.

The wiring adapter is very simple to make if you have the plugs needed to make it (engine side of E30 harness and chassis side of E36 harness). On the '84, there is only a few wires that you will need to connect. I prefer to connect a few wires myself rather than paying $400+ to have someone else do it.
There is diagrams floating around that make it simple. You can PM me if you need the diagram.

So by e36 rad, you mean any e36 6cyl? What car do I need an expansion tank from? For the tranny mounts I just need the rubber but I can use my m10 transmission crossmember? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to make a list of everything I need so I can go buy them as money slowly comes in, I just wanna have everything in front of me. I am also contemplating doing schrick cams (heavy duty valve springs/ rockers) new crank and conrod bearings with new rings. Is it worth it to find some form of high compression pistons? I'd be doing the Porsche HFM and a tune from trm that seems to cover almost all these modifications, it also looks like I'm doing a custom exhaust, does 2 inch deals with a test pipe, x-pipe and a 2 in 2 out magnaflow stainless sound alright? Or should I go a little more traditional with eismann or something?

Use the E30 325i cross member. I'm not sure if the 318 one works but the 325 definitely does.
I'd just leave the engine stock, but take care of anything that it might need. NA S5x's get realllllly expensive for not much gain. I would do the rod and main bearings and rings, and perhaps machine the head flat for a new HG.
Exhaust, go custom from OBD2 headers to either an E30 catback or just custom all the way through. Either dual 2" or single 2.5", with both a resonator and muffler (or aforementioned catback)

For the expansion tank (if you use the E36 rad), you'll need to come up with something different since both the late model E30s and E36s have the bottle mounted on the driver side and your car has it mounted on the passenger side. Your best bet is to retrofit a late model expansion tank (this is what I'm doing). This also means that you'll have to move the coolant sensor wiring to the driver's side.

Yeah the motor has about 240 000 Kms on it, bearings/rings, water pump and headgasket is all you would figure I should do? I'd really like to do cams (my current m10 has a custom cam in it right now, I love the difference so I'd like to feel it with almost 3 times the horsepower) and if the trm chip can be personalized for the cams so I know there's no dicking around with it, why the heck not! Also, oil pump nut? Is loctight good enough or should I drill it and put a wire through it?
