Pulled the m20 tonight and ... dammit

Found the passenger side motor mount ear broken clean off the subframe AND the drivers side transmission mount ear snapped off the tranny (the tranny I just bought)

I guess with the mount sheared off, the engine tilted and my through bolted UUC trans mounts didnt "give" enough and broke the trans itself from the "twist"

Also explains why my fan kept kissing the lower passenger side of my radiator. wish i found this sooner.. shoot. time to weld in reinforcements on my spare subframe.. and hopefully TIG weld this trans back together

    pics to come

On the plus side it was really nice to be able to just yank the engine and harness all together after pulling the dme harness through the firewall.. took only a couple hrs to pull

Pro3, west coast e30 racing. A lot of them will use stock rubber trans mounts so if in an accident the mount breaks instead of trans.

So one team runs them... You are saying that they would rather be more prone to miss shifting and destroying rockers and the engine then to have to spend $20 to weld the mounts back on the transmission if they get into a bad accident that. That's retarded and a lot of teams run solid mounts without breaking the transmission, probably more then those running stock mounts.

PRO3 Racing is in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon/Washington) and is almost the same as Spec E30 with slightly modified rules.

If your engine mounts are solid and your trans mounts are rubber does not mean your going to mis-shift. Think about it. The engine is not moving and since the transmission is also not moving since its bolted solid to a unmovable engine, the trans will also not be moving.

Yeah with solid motor mounts it wouldn't move but if they are using stock mounts or Ireland Engineering mounts that are going to fail in a short time then the solid mounts would help keep everything from moving.

true! Unfortunate but you lucked out. What kind of TIG machine are you using? Just learned myself and really looking forward to fabing some stuff.

Why? A properly repaired sub frame with a good weld will be stronger.
