    m52 fuel pressure

What fuel pump should i get for my m52? I have a fuel pump from an e36 320i and it acts funny. From what car should i get? My fpr is a 3.5 bar one. Someone is selling a 535i e34 fuel pump which said it puts out 6 bar is that true? What pump from what car should i get?

THe FPR controls fuel pressure. Fuel pump output isnt measured in Bar (pressure) its usually measured in LPH (flow/time). Any stock pump should be fine assuming its made for a injected BMW. Ive run an M50 on a stock E21 Fuel pump.

yeah but a pump outputs a certain amount of bars (3 bars for e30) and the fpr has 3.5 bars so shouldn't the pump output higher than 3.5 bars?

no it doesnt. The pump pumps fuel in lph, and the fpr restricts the flow to achieve the desired fuel pressure for the injectors.

You're both more or less correct. Fuel pumps designed for fuel injection are high pressure pumps, but I imagine the manufacture chooses pumps that achieve their peak efficiency near the rated fuel system operating pressure. The pumps are not constant flow - their delivery rate will vary with the amount of fuel pressure.

Anyway, the factory e30 pump can flow plenty of fuel for an M52. The one in my '85 was originally intended for a 120hp eta with a peak fuel pressure of 2.5 bar but supplies enough fuel for the turbo M50 at a peak pressure of 4 bar.
