    anyone relocated a brake booster on RHD

    Hi, the 944 booster setup doesn't float my boat, so I'm looking to go back to an E30 booster and move it across (I prefer not to go a dual-chamber booster, cos I'd like some room to play with around the intake boot). The catch is my car is right-hand-drive, has anyone done this on a RHD car?

    For those wondering why I can't just do something like this, the short story is that on a RHD the clevis is horizontal not vertical.

    Notice anything missing, like perhaps a brake booster?! So, moving to the left (passenger) side of the car, we find this: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E3...eflection_rod/

    I'm wondering if
    a) the whole pivot assembly will move across with the booster, so I just have to wind out the length adjustment on #11 (in the last schematic) or
    b) somehow lengthen the output (lower) lever on #6

    So you want to put it on the passenger side? Will anything fit over there? lol. Why not run a dual diaphragm booster in place of the stock one?

      The 735i setup is the backup plan, but I'd prefer to use the E30 booster instead, if possible. Because the E30 booster is shorter than a dual-chamber booster, there'd be more room to play with around the engine's air intake elbow (I'm trying to keep airbox and elbow OEM, so space is really tight) and not needing to mess around with a remote reservoir.

      I'm not sure what you mean about moving it to the pass side, the booster is already over there.

        I have a RHD car and I used the 735 booster with stock intake and the stock reservoir. Just unbolt the spacer, shorten and thread the rod and redrill two holes to fit the booster to the firewall. Make sure you get the master cylinder from the e32 as well.

          Well if you moved the booster over.. All you have to do is lengthen that push rod that goes from the driver side over to the Clevis. You could movethe booster even further than most of us left hand drive guys can because you don't have to worry about the push rod lining up with the brake pedal anymore

            This, go to the hard ware store and get a rod cut to the req'd length, get a 10buck tap and die set from supercheap and there you go... Just remember that the rod is reverse thread on one end so when you're unthreading it from one side it's also unthreading from the other side. At least I assume that's how it works. You could also flatten some spots on it like the stock one is so it can be more easily undone/done up

              NewMW, so there were no unforseen headaches when you moved the whole pivot assembly to the left by using the longer pushrod?

                I haven't done it to be honest, but that's how it worked when I unthreaded the rod. Have a look for yourself, is there anything in the way of the pivot assy? When I had a look on an E34 (a much more complex car) there were a whole lot of harness plugs that could potentially be in the way, but on the E30, I'm not sure... The longer pushrod is how I would do it, but you may have to pioneer! I hope I helped, and I wish you luck!

                  Cool.

                  At the moment, I'm leaning towards an E32 setup- to minimise hacking of firewall. But if the pedal feel isn't to my liking, I guess the 3rd booster attempt :eeek: will be a relocated E30 setup.

                    I have done it as well as a few folks in UK. The booster is moved 50-60mm over and a shorten E34 rod is used. The hard part (at least for me) was fabricating/modifying the pivot assembly as it has to be lengthened by the same amount.

                    BTW a good booster to use is from a plastic winged Renault Clio if you can find one of those.

                          Wat is ur purpose of moving the booster?? Is it the intake on the m50 that doesn't fit??? Is so, u don't need to shift booster but need to get a smaller 1.. I used a uno turbo booster on mine, and it fits perfect jus the push rod needs a mod!!
