not really, the leak down test is better. it fills the chamber with a 100psi. a small % of air will bleed off past rings and valves. and if the head gasket went bad air will bleed into the cooling system causing bubbles to come out. a compression test does not do this because the engine is spinning and only sees over 100psi for a short burst. hmmm... a compression test might push air into the cooling system if the HG is blown. but the leak down test is a better choice.
Please HELP! Cooling system issues

Yeah I know what both are. I don't have a leak down tester though, might be able to borrow one.not really, the leak down test is better. it fills the chamber with a 100psi. a small % of air will bleed off past rings and valves. and if the head gasket went bad air will bleed into the cooling system causing bubbles to come out. a compression test does not do this because the engine is spinning and only sees over 100psi for a short burst. hmmm... a compression test might push air into the cooling system if the HG is blown. but the leak down test is a better choice.
A compression test will read low psi if the headgasket is leaking. Depends where the leak is thoughYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Ive had motors let the HG go quickly after install when the motor had been sitting a while even tested good before install its the risk you sometimes take.
I would just pressure test the coolant since its virtually free. Just pump it up and let it sit while it sits go around the motor looking for an obvious leak. This kink you have if you have one it could be putting a pocket of air in the system not allowing it to properly bleed, dunno hard to say w/o looking at it.Comment

this has to be a pretty serious HG leak to make it shoot water out so quickly after warming up.
How would a leak cause this, lowering the pressure and allowing it to boil? Wouldn't water leak and I'd see it?
Anyway I'm going to hopefully do the pressure test mondayYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

This is info I've saved 'cause ya just never know
If the damage was severe, it may show up on a compression test, but the more common case is slight damage that won't be revealed that was. The most common case is a leak of air into the cooling system. An extended (for several minutes) leak down test using 180psi while monitoring cooling system pressure with a sensitive gage will usually locate small leaks. Or you can full bleed the system, drive the car for a bit and re-bleed. Release of a significant amount of air then or on a subsequent bleed is evidence of a leak. JLEVIE
If you think you may have blown a head gasket, you might want to look into something like this: http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/lis75500.html Checks for presence of exhaust gases in your coolant, pretty much a surefire test. I hate second-guessing, especially something like this, so it'd definitely be worth the $25 to me. WH33LHOPLast edited by 36brua; 01-20-2013, 08:46 AM.Comment

I had a 735e32 years ago that was doing something similar neither water nor oil was mixing however the compression was pumping air over into the system. It took a HG to repair it. I'm not saying you have a blown HG I'm only saying its possible and it doesnt have to be severe.Comment

There is no way its pumping enough gas in there to bubble as much as it is.
I just shot a vid with my infrared thermometer explaining why I think that kinked hose is causing the problems.
I think it is backing up that pipe that the lower reservoir hose connects too and the water isn't circulating through the heater pipes as well as it should. My heater also doesn't work for crap!

not trying to be a jerk here ..but your hose hook up to heater core is
Head -> bottom outlet
Spider hose->top outletComment

This might be what is happening. I might have introduced air into it when I bent the metal pipe down.
I just took out the metal pipe and its not kinked as much as it looks while its in the car, its fine.
when I undid the hose for the pip it was just air and no water.
How could I refill the system and make sure there is no ait in there?
thats how I have itYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

you can fill up the heater core with a funnel pull the top hose outside in the engine compartment against the firewall pour it in until it starts coming out. This will get most of it Then start car and bleed as usual. This should force it out if in fact that is the problem. I like to have the back end of the car pointing down hill if possible while filling to help purge all the air out. You should also have the heat pointing at full blast HOT.Comment

Yeah I know a pocket of air in the line will mess things up. Will it cause that bottom line to bubble and shoot water out?
How do I go about getting all the air out?!Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
