    Staying 3.73 or going 3.46

It's time to change my shitty 3.73 open diff and I'm wondering if I should go s3.73 or s3.46 ?

    My car is M50tu + G260.

I'd like to have a lower rpm on highway but keep the good acceleration the 3.73 gives.

I think the s3.46 would be nice but I'd like to have your experiences before buying one.

    ;)

    S3.25 out of an E28 ( 535is auto) or a 3.73 with a 6spd.

3.46 is good too but rare ( m roady) and a 3.73 is not ideal for hwy and DD duty without 6th gear.

The s3.73 is perfectly paired with the g260, due to the overdriven 5th gear.

My vote: stick with a s3.73

          I have a 4.10 open diff paired with my m20b5. It's a nightmare. I've always wanted a s3.73.

I have an m50tu with g250 and a 3.73. If I had a little more gear in 5th it would be ok, but with the 1:1 5th gear its a bit much on the highway.

Highway high rpm is wrong with it.

I'm just wondering how less quick it would be at accelerating ?

I have in my M 30 a 3.46. Originally I had a 3.73 for a few years but my mileage suffered and I was going to high on the highway.

Jim, I 100% agree with you on the 3.73 being a little "buzzy" for my taste.

My E34 will have that same drivetrain: 24V + G260 (yes, E30 trans) + 3.46, but my tire size is 255/35/18, so even a little lower RPM than yours would be, most likely.

I want to see 2500RPM at 70, roughly. Right now with the G260 and the M20 it is 3000 at 70, just too busy on the freeway, but the little M20 works pretty hard rolling that much weight and tire.

I say if you can find a 3.46, do it.

                    Luke
