    Dme too hot

It seems that my new DME is overheating, I put my hands in there and that thing is way way too hot. someone knows what the temp should be?
note. I have not yet mounted the thing, it's just hanging on pasenger side floor. will that affect anything. maybe should be grounded on a bracket? not sure.

iirc thats usually an indication that you have poor ground. a lot of guys end up running an extra ground to the dme itself and that helps, not necessarily with cooling off the dme but with poor grounding in general. but that could help take car of your issue. it def wont hurt things

If it's mounted with the 318i brackets it should be grounded and that should alleviate the hot to the touch feeling.
For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!

Heat indicates that the coils are grounding through the ECU and not the block like it should. You need more engine grounding son. Not necessarily case grounding.

run some ground wires to each of the coilpacks and then to a nice new ground by the battery tray.

That's a bit excessive. Grounding the coil packs to the shock tower or something should be more than fine. But really the factory stuff should work more than fine. I'd be concerned with spark plug gap/freshness and engine grounding in general.
