    The Weekend M50-S52 swap

I recently purchased an 87 zinno 325is coupe that had already been M50 swapped. Well, i recently found an already OBD1 converted S52 with a freshly rebuild head (5 angle valve job, MLS gasket, ARP studs, TRM chip, the works...) motors only got 90k on it. Soooo me and my roommate are going to be pulling out my m50, tranny, driveshaft, and diff, and dropping in the S52, ZF tranny, 328 driveshaft, and 2.93 posi diff. all in the timeframe of this 3 day weekend.
-So far got a new tranny crossmember
-AKG mounts (the ones that are in there would work fine but i prefer non-rubber mounts)
-328(E36) driveshaft to mate to the zf output flange (6 12mm bolts 96 BCD versus the getrag 260's 6 10mm bolts 78 bcd)
-2.93 rear diff, hopefully this will feel nice with the ZF's tighter and lower gear ratio.
    -BMW coolant
-Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 motor oil
    -Royal Purple 75w90 gear oil
    -New guibo & CSB
-The rest of the usual 24v swap parts (different brake booster, E34 oil pan etc.) I should be able to take off of the M50
We are hoping that's it but please let me know if there is any other parts you guys can think of.
So far the only thing i can think of thats in question is the shifter linkage. When the car was M50 swapped by the PO, he used the Z3 short shifter and i dont know if the linkage was modified to account for the 10 degree rotation.
As far as wiring goes just going to label everything, double and triple check some diagrams, test everything, and just take it one wire at a time.
Cant for the life of my seem to be able to get any pics to show right now so check out my other thread to see how she sits now: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=277382
    Suggestions are more then welcome!
Shes getting pulled in the garage tonight to get started so stay tuned for some pics!

    Ok finally an update...
So unfortunately the swap didn't completely happen in the 3 days.
We got the M50 out safely, prepped the S52 (swapped oil pans, oil, sump, etc.) But with a couple 1-2 hour setbacks we weren't able to get the S52 in. Maybe without cross threading then breaking a steal bolt into my aluminum head and without my slave cylinder exploding in the bell housing it might have happened.
But we did end up swapping diff's and drive shafts which made me happy. Next time i will be able to work on it is spring break (college gets in the way unfortunately) but on the bright side i will have time to order more hardware and little stuff.
    Here are a few pics:

PS: No i was not aware that my m50 ECU was literally fried!
    Does anyone know what happened?

I was in the same boat as you last summer. Went m50 to s52, expecting to drive to work the next week. Didnt happen.
Learned that swaps will always take longer and cost more money then anticipated, and everything will go wrong.
      Good luck finishing it up.

            Haha thanks
If i had one more day it would have definitely happened.
Gonna be sweet once its done.
Next in line i have to try to find a full E30 M3 5 lug swap for it.

even tho it is no longer the "weekend" swap, im finally back to continuing my s52 swap.
Well today we got the motor into the car and lined up on the mounts, just have to figure out the washer situation. Other then that tomorrow goes to hooking her up and getting her started...
                  Pics to come.

ya i bought 24v swap specific akg motor and tranny mounts which apparently means i dont need spacers either.
Thought i did but that was just for skid plate clearance. Took the skid plate off for the time being.
Anyways got the motor in, everything bolted up, all hoses attached, and wired up.
                      AND SHE STARTED!!!
Super pumped. Was even louder then i expected open header.
tomorrow goes to getting her all finished up and hopefully back on the road.

One question for those experienced swappers out there...
I used the shift linkage that i had been using with the m50 g260 combo and now the whole thing is rotated way towards the drivers side. Besides twisting the actual linkage which id rather not do how have you gotten around this problem?
                      Thanks

                        You'll need the e36/zf setup.

very excited for you man, about the linkage, i cut the shifter arm in half moved it over and welded back like in the pic. Make sure you measure it on ur car before you weld.

ok just the stock e36 zf linkage?
(or any short shifter made for that setup?)

correct, the g260 linkage has to be twisted to make it fit correctly. Swapping back to the e36 zf linkage will solve your issue.
