    c101 body plug | e34 vs e36

    Hey Fellas,
I'm in the home stretch of my swap, I just need to make my c101 to x20 adapter and test fire the engine.

The donor car was an e34, as a result my engine harness and c101 body plug I have are e34. It seems like the wire colors may have a different pin-out compared to the e36. I'm using the guides on RM European and found these differences:
    pin 12 GRN/GRY (e34 = BRN/VLT)
    pin 23 GRN (e34 = BRN/GRN)
    pin 15 BLK/YLW (e34 = BLK/GRN)

I have a e36 parts car I could cut the body connector from to compare, but would rather not.

Does anyone have experience on this issue? Does wire color or pin location rule? Am I going about this all wrong?

Electrical is definitely the weakest part of my game, so please be gentle.
    Thanks
    Chris

Ignore wire colors, think FUNCTIONS... get the ETM for your car and donor harness.

Good point Jean, thanks for bringing me back.

These look to be the correct ETMs:
      engine harness:

      chassis:

I'm guessing there's no place where the connectors are shown.
I'll need to build the function map on my own, is that correct?

Is the basic FUNCTION list from RM European close?
      Pin 1 (alternator charge)
      Pin 4 (coolant tem)
      Pin 5 (oil pressure)
      Pin 6 (Diagnostic Connector)
      Pin 7 (Ignition switch)
      Pin 8 (fuel consumption)
      Pin 9 (engine speed)
      Pin 12 (check engine light)
      Pin 13 (fuel pump)
      Pin 14 (speed signal input)
      Pin 15 (starter thin wire)
      Pin 18 (starter thicker wire)

        What year and model?

6 should be the 02 heater
        20 abs if applicable.

Your e30 side seems to be ok but don't quote me on this, I'm referring to my 91 318is. I havnt found too many alterations in the c101 before 89 so hopefully your in that boat.

So I went through both ETMs tonight, the results are below.
I have 1 hole in each connector:
          x20 - pin 7
          C101 - pin16

          Any info there?

I'm a little confused on connecting all the starter/ignition wires, so guidance there would be good.

Let me know what you think.
          Thanks
          Chris

7 is n/a for me. 16 I have data link, diagnosing stuff I believe.
15 starter relay small wire (on the starter)
18 starter larger (on the starter)

              So far so good.
I started the car last night. I need to get all the wiring into final locations and add the radiator and coolant, but I should be driving soon.

1 issue, the tach isn't working, sitting at zero. I've read in a couple placed that a wire needs to be run to a connector in the glove box area. Anyone have experience here?

Here's where I landed with wiring:

The tach wire on the car depends on year. 84-87 have the tach wire in glove box. Late cars have it in the c101

My car is a 1989 model year with a 11/88 production date.
Based on that it and what you're saying (and the ETM) it should be in the C101.

So I either used the wrong wire or something is up with the car harness....

I'll go over it all again...
                  Thanks
