    Important Ground Info (relay clicking)

If you are experiencing relays clicking it is because you are not properly grounded.

Guys this is gonna be useless to some of you and very important to others but listen to me when i say you can never have too many ground wires.
First off let me say that i had problems starting my engine when i finally got it in the car.I had checked over all my electricals for a day and a half, including: fuses, relays, checked bentley manuals checked chilton and online, followed wires back and forth on my harness, and even cut some casing to find out which color was which. The moral of this story make sure you have proper grounding.

Things to check before starting your engine when transplanted

    1. DME/ECU needs to be ground

2.Coils need to be ground , to make sure just run a ground wire from the valve cover to the chassis.

    3. As always the engine must be grounded to the chassis(most important)

Yeah this should really be stickied or something, because ground wires are so simple and yet many people forget because of anticipation.

Do any of you make your own ground straps? My ground strap that conects to the oil pan is shot. I need to make a new one or buy one. Would you just go to the dealer for this part?

Question about grounding the coil packs. My 11/95 S50 motor only has one ground strap for the six coil packs. My friends '97 S52 motor has two ground straps, one for each set of 3 coil packs. I looked on the parts manual to make sure I'm not missing one and my car is correct, but why do you think they added a second ground to the S52 motor?

For the record...I've had no grounding issues, but i haven't driven the car yet either...only started it up about 8 times while it's still on jack stands :)

I was curious about that too, and it worried me also because i thought something was wrong when i only saw one on my s50 compared to my old s52. Im not sure but i bet it had something to do with alot of coil failures or something along those lines and they figured they could fix the problem with double ground wires.

yeah it's wierd because the second ground strap could easily be added to the S50 motor, you just need another strap and one of those special screws/nuts that they use to mount it. Do S50's go through coils more quickly than S52's?

Not sure, maybe it helps to put more volts to the spark plugs. There has to be a substantial explanation.
