    M50 runs rough/no power

Hey, I'm new to this forum and bmws in general. Picked up a 318is w/ M50 engine as a project car about two months ago. I've been having some aggravating issues with it hopefully you guys can help me out.

Recently it's been running really rough most of the time. While idling I can feel the engine rocking the car back and forth, but the rpms stay constant. It's very difficult to get it started in first when it's running the worst. I'll have to almost floor the gas to keep it alive, the whole time it's jerking and back firing. Really sluggish and acts like it has no power.
Every now and then it decides to run awesome for a short amount of time, then goes back to running like crap.

I thought i might have been getting a little bit of water in the gas because it seemed to run the worst after a rain. Although I'm not sure that's the case cause I've been keeping it in the garage and avoiding driving it in the rain.

Maybe it's a sensor somewhere that's dying? Any help would be appreciated, tried my best to describe how it's running.

Eliminate vacuum issues and check compression in the cylinders. Past that I would test all the ignition coilpacks.

After reading some stuff online maybe it's a blocked catalytic converter?

Make sure the CPS tone ring/vibration damper is bolted to the crank in the correct position.

Sorry, I've been out of town.
It's not a vacuum problem, double checked and replaced all of those lines and gaskets a month ago.
            It's a nonvanos engine.
I've been driving it the past week and it's running good. 3/3 times it was running rough it was also raining or had just rained.
I should be able to get the tools to do a compression test this week.
            Thanks.
