    I'm thinkin M50 2.8 stroker... ??

So I've had my e30 for just about a year and its currently stripped for rust repairs (what a b*%&$)... Anyways my first plan for the motor was to build and m20 stroker but after realising just how much it would cost to build/assemble plus tune I think Ill go in a different dirrection...

So here's my question, what motors would I be able to swap the m52b28 crank into, ive heard a lot of different things on the subject and want to know what kind of strokers you guys have.

I would ideally like to get this into an m50 motor cause I could probably get one for a couple hundred.

    Thanks in advance

I did it on a m50tu, m52 crank and rods and m50tu pistons

    2.8l and 11:1cr

What did you do in terms of tune? How do you like the motor compared to a plain m50? Any machining to crank or pistons for clearances?

i abandonned the build for a while but on my last visit to the dyno it made 210/195 on a dynojet with a s50 413 and a localy 'custom' chip.

now i will run miller war to see how much it can do.

no machinning required with that combo

Edit: forgot to mention, low end torque is nice and it keeps pulling very hard compared with the engine before the stroker

^what he said. Save yourself the time and the headache of building a Frankenstein motor. Just save up and look for a deal on a 24v motor. Sure it's cool to build a stroker but it ain't worth it.

yes, but given the fact that i was going to refresh the 2.5 anyways and in the process i got the rods and crank for less than $200 it wasn't that bad at all. but yeah, if you can find a M52 in great conditions just get it and be done.

Same here I got the crank rods and pistons for 100, and would rather do something with them instead of letting em go to waste. I know i could just spend a little more and get a m52 but there has to be some benefits of that build, plus that motor probably sounds awesome loll

yes, and a m52 in a good condition here are around $1,000+ and crank, rods, with bearings and rings plus all the seals and chain tensioners and stuff was much less than that so.... a fresh engine with the same displacement and more CR for less? it was a good decision. :D

so with that combo of the the m52 crank and rods with the m50tu pistons, how was the piston height? did you need custom head gasket or will it sit almost flush with the deck?

assembly height was 209.55 iirc. stock HG

i didn't really measured the engine to check the (real) CR but with calculators and stuff it totalled 11:1, take or add some?

i used the specs of the m50tu to get the 10.5:1 and then changed the rod from 140 to 135, crank from 75 to 84 and that was it.

Piston sits almost flush to the deck

Building same thing now. I calc'd closer to 11.3:1 compression, but whatever. Pistons sit slightly lower in the block then stock. So no valve clearance issues.

i just finished swapping it to my new sedan, i will let you know the numbers when i setup the WAR.

im hoping for 225-230.. lets see..

last time it did 210 and 195wtq with a 413 with a mild chip so i still have some room for improvement.

find some s52 cams while you're at it!
