Very cool I did almost the same thing but I swapped the internal to S50 Crank Rods and High comp pistons. Started it up last week and it seems to be working great!
I had to swap over the harmonic balancer due to where the CPS pickup (missing teeth) are located in comparison to the M50NV one.
My swap M50NV+S50 cams+M52 vanos......

It runs. I ran into a no start situation which has been determined to be the crank sensor, I swapped that and it runs again. Not sure if the cam sensor would have worked without me grinding down the step, but so far so good.Leave a comment:

Good info keep us posted and post some photos so i will compare with what i haveThe only way I could get the cam sensor in the hole and sit flush was to file down the step in the sensor. There was a really tiny green oring inside of it so I left that on there. I couldn't even use the NV oring and have it sit flush. I just need some oil and coolant and will firing it up. We'll see.
I do have another cam sensor if that filed down one doesn't work out.Leave a comment:

I'm at the stage of putting everything back together after I converted an NV head to vanos. The cam sensor isn't sitting flush with the head, even using the thinner NV oring. 92 325i head on 95 525i block and chassis.
One post in this thread says to get rid of the step on the sensor and one says it fits when tightened down-both using the thinner oring. Do I get rid of the edge or just tighten it up?

see my earlier post - you will need S50 cams or M50 cams for vanos - Yes! I used the cams; lifters and traysLeave a comment:

go for s50 cams while you are there (if the budgets allows)
vanos maf sensor
knock sensors
filter housing (as is different because of the vanos line port)
that should complete the list.Leave a comment:

I'm considering adding Vanos to my M50NV and have a few questions for any of you that have completed this swap.
I think I would need:
Vanos wiring harness
413 DME
Vanos unit
Vanos valve cover
Vanos CPS
Vanos vibration dampener
What about cams and lifters? Would I just need an M50tu intake cam or would I need both?Leave a comment:
