    Help with shifter carrier

I bought a trans (i guess from an early model 325es) with the plate mounted shifter carrier. My car is a '89 and I DO NOT want to use that carrier! I would like to use the later style on. So I ordered the bracket for the trans and it came in. Upon inspection I don't have the mounting pieces that are on the trans for the bracket to be mounted to...

What are my options here? Do I need to get something else or am I SOL and have to buy a different trans?

    HELP!!!

i swapped from an 85 e with a getrag 260 to a getrag 250. i had to swap plates over to what i believe is the later model in order to bolt up my shifter carrier correctly.

I have a 2/86 build 325es and it had the sheet metal carrier. I was able to swap over to the later aluminum style with no problem. However, I've heard that some of the early G260s didn't come with the "ears" on the back to mount the later aluminum carrier...so just double check that.

EDIT: Sorry, it helps if I read your whole post. Yeah, I think you'll need a new tranny if you don't want to do a franken-mod to the sheetmetal carrier.

You can cut up the sheet metal shifter and mount it inside the car if your using poly engine and trans mounts, makes for a econo race setup similar to the AKG quick shifter.

Alternatively you can order the bracket from the E30 M3, the getrag 265 also do not have the 'mounting ears', yet still uses the aluminum carrier.

Also make sure you run a short bolt into the left side where the sheet metal carrier mount bolt would go. Its open to the inside of the trans and you will get a nasty leak if you don't.

Yeah i guess the trans is one of the older models without the ears for the updated shifter carrier. I bought the mounting bracket from the dealer but there is now way i can install it without a custom bracket of some sort which i think would be too much of a hassle!

I ended gettinga shifter plate and will waituntil it shows up to see how it will mount.

Another question I have is, since i bought a Z3 shifter, will i be able to use it with the plate mount or no luck there either?

I know solid mounts are an option to run as a short shifter, but i am trying to atay away from that option as well for mow since i also got brand new engine mounts too...

Also how would i have to modify the shifter plate so it is not tilted to the side or is this set up not effected by it?

Haha, yes. My mechanic and I chased this issue for the longest time. I think he replaced the tranny seal 5 times until by dumb luck he found that with a flashlight one day.
