Planning to 24v my car soon, trying to round up parts now but need a little input on a couple things. The car is 90% daily driver with some trackdays and autocross. Primary goal is to have a smoother running motor with more significantly more torque and an increase in mid-top end.
Engine choices are stock S52B32 and M52B28 with cams. Will be using G260, car currently has V3.91 diff. Engines will come complete with all accesories/harness, starters etc
1. Flywheel, should I use stock 24v dual mass or modify/install my 13lb m20? Car is a daily driver, the 24v motors seem to rev pretty quick as they are and I worry the 13lb would be overkill for a street car, it's rough enough on the slower revving m20. Great on the track though.
2. Differential, what gearing for each motor behind a G260? Found a calculator that seems to say a 3.46 is a close match to the stock ratios as they were in the e36 donors with ZF's. I was thinking even a 3.25 in an e30 would be good as they would have the power to pull the lighter car without wasting time shifting too often on the track and in town.
3. Airbox. Castros, or modified stock? Is there any downside to running a stock airbox? I do not care about "potential HP gains" from aftermarket, I want a smooth running engine.
4. Mounts, e28 M5 or AKG? I worry the AKG mounts will add lots of noise/vibrations, but the M5 mounts seem to get a twist to them from the angle difference
5. Brakes, I plan to shift my stock booster over as both it and my master are less then 2 months old. Is this still a heavily debated idea or has it become fairly accepted? I will modify and offset the clevis for correct alignment.
6. "Bang for buck", is the M52B28 worth the effort and cost savings or does it pale in comparison to the S52? I am not looking to go overboard on the power but do not want to swap and be dissappointed with the result.
