I am doing an OBD2 S52 swap and am down to tying up some loose ends. This weekend i noticed my MAF doesnt plug into my connector. I got the MAF seperate from the drivetrain but its supposed to be an OBD2 MAF and the part number checks out as being OBD2. I noticed there are two types, Bosch and Siemens, mine is a Siemens. Are there two types for the OBD2 or is Bosch OBD1 and Siemens OBD2? If thats true then my harness is an OBD1 harness, which makes no sense as i ran the numbers on the engine and its from a 98 M3 and the harness was hooked up to all the sensors when i bought it. So that leads me to believe that both Bosch and Siemens made OBD2 sensors for the E36, each with different style plugs. I just want to make sure i get the right MAF and not waste another 100$. I know OBD1 MAFs will not work with an OBD2 harness and vice versa.

Thats an OBDII maf, so you must have an OBD1 harness if it doesn't plug in. The plug wouldn't vary from manufacturer.
Easy way to check is look at your coil pack harness.

OBD1

Mine is the OBD2 coil pack harness for sure. The plugs do differ for Bosch and Siemens. You can see in the pics above the gates that allow the plugs to set are different. Thanks for the input tho. I am beginning to think the both manufactures made both OBD 1 and 2 MAFs. When and why two different MAFs were used is puzzling.Comment
