    s52 odb2 help

i got the s52 to start. but ugh not running right.... im getting irritated and need some insight.

i start the s52 fires up but runs on olike 2-3 cylinders cant tell. shitty idle then dies and when it dies smoke comes out the of maf like a cough. so starts dies then like a cough ahhhchoooo smoke comes out. I unpluged the maf and tps and nothing. i replaced the crank sensor because it was kinda broken and thought it would be cause. can it be the cam shaft sensor? and does any one know the color wires are the cam shaft sensor? maybe plugged in the wrong place?

It cant be my timing i triple checked that shit. i changed the icv, checked the ground straps and grounds for coils. resistance on all coil seem great. is there a ground im missing for the coils? i got a ground strap on cyc 1 and 6 and the middle has the injector ground i believe.

the engine has about 80k, also has odb1 m50 manifold and tuned ecu ms41.1 from desertbmw.

    any ideas?

im thinking coilpacks right are bad, i check the sparkplugs and cyc 3 and 4 are wet
i checked and redid the vacuum all good now. no difference tho.

the weird thing is that if i rev it sounds like it runs all six

Mine did the same thing and it was the coil packs. I had one bad one and one that quit working when the motor warmed up. i just unplugged them while the motor was running and you can tell which one work and which ones dont. Also check the wires for the cam sensor because under the rubber boot on the plug mine had bare wires touching. just some ideas hope it helps.

just make sure they are from a obd2 motor as the obd1 ones are different. found that out when i replaced mine, good luck

Could you have something plugged into wrong connectors near front of fuel rail? There are a few connections there that can be confused easily, IIRC. It's those 2-pin Bosch connectors-there are 2 or 3 that can be swapped accidently. Forgot where I saw a diagram of where each one is supposed to be plugged in, but there is one online somewhere.
          Good Luck!

i did have those mixed up at first but corrected them a few days ago.

the 'updated y cable from the crank sensor under the starter right? the longer end goes into the front end of the fuel rail and smaller from the y cable goes into the vanos?

Wish I could tell you. My car is garaged elsewhere right now, so I can't just take a look. But yeah, that's the area I'm referring to.

the beauty of obd2 is that you can hook up a code reader and figure out exactly what's wrong with the engine control system, instead of just picking up 'a whole mess of coilpacks' or other things.

I'd recommend making sure the data link is wired correctly and running diagnostics. that should help clear things up!

i know right! i have a scanner but i dont have the connector for the engine bay port.. which is like a 20 pin round port

                    i need one of these

sorry to hear the coils didnt work. they make a adapter for a regular scanner just look on amazon for a 20 pin bmw to universal obd2 cable. mine cost me like 20 bucks and works great if you have access to a scanner. it sounds like you have the y connecter hooked up correct. when i put mine together i found a diagram for it online.

heys guys i have another question

i am getting massive oil in the intake area.... i started freaking out and bough a compression tester. i ran a compression test and
                          1 215
                          2 230
                          3 230
                          4 230
                          5 230
                          6 225

                          the results are great

does the stock s52/m52 oil seperator have a built in check valve so oil doesnt rise up in the dip stick? if it does then it explains my issue because i am using a e39 m5 oil separator. i think oil is rising through the line, i just used a generic line

                          nvm this was solved

alright guys update i am completely stumped!

i replace all injectors, replaced all ignition coils, crank and cam sensor are new as well...
i bought the odb2 peake code scanner and i get these codes still after i replaced everything, i cleared them and they are still there

                            it idles like shit misfiring

                            here are the codes
                            11 - camsensor
14- after cat o2 sensor - not worried about this because header is not installed
44 misfire cyc 6 damaging catalyst
                            37 mis fire cyc 6
                            19 ign coil 1
                            53 intervention asc
                            32 mis fire cyc 1

i am begining to think i didnt plug up the cam sensor right since code still shows up and i installed a brand new oem

why dont you throw on the factory exhaust manifolds with the 2 o2 sensors and see how it runs and what codes you get. You say header is not hooked up, does that mean that yer running with no manifolds at all, or that its just not hooked up to the rest of the exhaust?
