Need help identifying a DME. i have searched everywhere...

    Hey guys,

As some of you may know I am going through the CA referee process. the ref wanted me to get documentation from the dealer saying that my red label 413 was a direct replacement dme. well i got in contact with them and im sure you already know what happened. they gave me the run around and tried to sell me a new one for 1729.85 plus installation fee. LOL. So i i found a guy who would sell me this DME (pictured below) it came out of a running 95 m3. is this a manufacturer silver label 506? or? he really wasnt sure and the last thing i want to do is buy something the ref will just fail.

I just got a phone call from a guy at bmw and he confirmed it was for a e36 m3.

When I had my car BAR'd the ref ran the ser# on the 413 on his computer and he was able to tell me what mdl/yr and last time smogged ! I did a 94 M50 OBD1 . he said while not original to the M50 at least a '94(?) it was still in the same 'family' and he would accept it. I assume (d) he meant it was OBD1 but for that series of engines. I do not know the mdlyrs the 413 was used. Seems everyone has a different experience with this process good luck !

checking the PN it comes up as a reman ECU for any OBD1 E36, weird that it doesnt have a '506' on the Bosch part#

Thank you im probably going to need it..the red label 413 I had in the car when i went to the ref had a vin sticker on it. the vin was for a 1993 325is if i remember correctly. he just wanted me to go to bmw and have documentation confirming it was a direct replacement ecu for a s50. according to the head parts guy they do not have that information. but the red label 413 is the same dme family. i think thats why most refs let it pass. because it works just fine. but this guy seems really strict, i kinda like that just because if there was any little thing wrong with the swap he would have let me know.

thats what really threw me off. it was pulled from a 95 m3, so im thinking they flashed it at the dealer. but real oem pulled this up.

what really made me curious was the "1214" in the front of the part number.
