    M52 Burning Oil?

Here's the setup. I have a 99 M52 ODB1 with m50 intake, 21.5 injectors, s52 cams, light weight flywheel, 540 MAF with 3.5 intake boot. rebuilt my head ( changed the valve seals and resurfaced ) and after starting it once a week for less than 10 seconds everything was fine. Tonight I installed my TRM chip designed for my setup, I let it run outside for 2-3 minutes and it was puffing blue smoke from the headers.

Could it just be a build up of crap and oil from not letting it run for long?
It started puffing on the first start with the tune so can it be that's its keeping the valves open longer because of the S52 cams?
I doubt it's a piston ring because it was not doing this with stock chip.

I brought the head to someone who specializes in that field

Regardless of how long the valves are held open, shouldn't be any oil in there unless you've got valve seal issue or a bad oil sep issue but since you have only run it for a couple minutes, I would rule that out. If you suspect rings, do a leak down test.

Also, did the guy who built the head specialize in these type of cylinder heads or was he the local reputable machinist? Don't guess it should make a massive difference but he might have missed a trick or two like what Dave was saying.

Thanks guys for help but this was false alarm. Everything is in order now and it was never burning oil. I just had that impression cause there was a heavy amount of exhaust smoke which I thought was blue.. Im a failure .

hahaha well what was it then? Could have had just oil residue on the exhaust and when it got hot it burned off. Scared the hell out of me the first time I helped my brother install headers on his e46.

I think it may have been a build up of oil like you said. I used to start the engine maybe once a month but for only a few seconds. The other night was the first time that I had it running for more than 3-4 mins. What also didn't help was that the header wrap is new and never got up to heat so that was burning up too. Im glad that everything is fine tho :)

Me too! I'm ready to see the finished car. Good luck with the rest of the project.
