    Wiring questions

    Hey guys, I'm starting my wiring this weekend and I have a few questions.

    1994 325i motor and harness > 1988 325 (seta)

    Obviously the X20 is the lower connector, but what is the other one...? It has 4 pins, 4 wires in it (no it isn't the diagnostic plug) and it was plugged in right next to the X20 by the fuse box. Can anyone help me out?





    I couldn't find anything in the wiring diagrams about it, but I also suck at reading the wedophones.com stuff.

    I have an e34 harness for the same motor ('94 525i I believe - its an M50TU) that does not have this extra plug... kinda confusing. Any info is greatly appreciated! :)

    Anyone know what this second x20 looking connector is...? Do I just leave it unplugged?

      Probably the wiring for the automatic transmission.

        The car is a manual trans though.

        Unless there's still a provision for the auto tranny on manual cars...?

            maybe the car used to be automatic and it was converted to manual

              My OBDII harness had a plug just like that next to the x20 with the gray ring in the center of the plug and all, but it had about 10 wires, and it was for an auto transmission. Why don't you look up the wiring diagrams and look for the wire colors of the 4 wires going into the plug?

                I don't believe so, I know the 3 previous owners of the car and they never mentioned anything about a conversion.

                Maybe the harness was swapped or something... assuming it didn't have a trans conversion. Idk.

                Hmm this is interesting, so it sounds like its definitely an auto trans plug then? Can I not plug it in to anything without consequence, maybe even cut it off and take care of the wires?

                I did search, couldn't find much on the connector. I'll have to study it a little more when I have some time.

                  You don't have to do anything with it. You can undo the wire cover and remove all the wires going to it or you can just leave it as is.

                    I'll have to do some digging to figure out if the car was swapped or what.

                      Finally got a chance to do some real searching, discovered what it actually is. It's not the auto trans plug.

                      This is a write-up for LSx swap info for E36's, but it has some good info regarding wiring and such.

                      It's an X69 plug for the ABS/ASC (traction control), doesn't sound like I need to do anything with it and I'm sure I can just delete it entirely.
