    S52 mid-muffler with Eisenmann Race?

    OBD-1 S52 with minor bolt-ons. Built to be an aggressive DD / AutoX / HPDE car so I don't mind it loud, but its a bit much right now :tsk:. I think there are a few minor leaks and I'll get these taken care of first but I have a feeling I'll still want it a bit quieter

    Current Setup:

    ebay shorty headers
    custom downpipe/Xpipe
    dual Vibrant metal cats
    Straight pipes to Eisenmann Race e36m3 catback

    My question -- Should I be looking for resonators or additional mufflers if i want to quiet it down slightly? I am considering the Borla XS mufflers if I need to, I really like their sound. Any other suggestions?

    I have a similar setup, dual vibrant cats after a custom x-pipe, into dual vibrant resonators, into UUC system U muffler. I will warn you that it is still pretty droney and annoying, and while the resonators helped alot they do not reduce dB level much if at all. I bought a different muffler and will swap out the UUC. in your case I would suggest skipping resonators and going for a center muffler.

      this. if you want to make it noticeably quieter then a center muffler will definitely help out. but a resonator wouldnt be bad at all.
      my setup is s50 w/ schricks, raceland long tubes, 2.25in 3in ouch y pipe to 3in piping to a 24in long 3" diameter resonator to a 3" in free flow muffler. the car is pretty loud. i want to swap out the free flow for a chambered muffler so i can get a deeper and lower sound.

        I have the exact setup you're referring to: OBD-1 S52 + OBD2 exhaust manifoolds + custom x-pipe (for O2 sensor) + S52 mid pipes + E36 Eisenmann race. I love it for daily driving. No drone, not obnoxiously loud, aggressive idle burble. I wish it had more "scream" up top, but I think that's only possible without cats.

        Unfortunately, I have no video, but friends of mine say it sounded great at the road course on track days.

          Your manifolds are OEM? Like with cats? Ya I really should look into getting the leaks taken care of and then judge. Maybe I'm just being a wuss :p

            S52 OEM exhaust manifolds (OBDII) are tubular steel. They do not have cats in them. The S52 only had cats in the mid pipe. Photos of my setup below...

            OEM exhaust manifolds (note no cats). This is before conversion to OBDI, so it still has the 2 O2 sensors in there and the provisions for SAI.

                Nope, just the custom pipes are coated. Manifolds, mid pipe and muffler are as is.

                  What exactly is the benefit of the X pipe? I'm exhaust illiterate.

                    From what I understand (I'm not very literate either) it equalizes pressure between the pipes and helps control rasp. As well, you can run your o2 sensor there so it reads off all cylinders
