What should I ask?

I found this on Craigslist near me:

He said the shifter is stuck, and the PO broke the shifter trying to unstick it, so I'm guessing the tranny is probably worthless.

As far as the engine, he says no cracks, but he never had it compression tested. He said it ran fine when he pulled it.

This would be my first swap, so I'm kind of at a loss to what else I should ask him, or what I should look for when I go look at the engine.

Any suggestions?

I've done some looking and it really does seem like the trans is junk now. Is it possible to rebuild it, or is it just junk?

AN e30 tranny will work with the swap with minor modification. Do some reading on this sight, there is a lot of information. I would offer around $200 for that motor.

I know an E30 tranny will work, unfortunately, I have an automatic, and that has got to go. :)
