m50NV HOT cam / S50 spec regrind / software options - anyone have any idea?

The last couple of weeks I have searching around for cam options for the M50NV.

It sounds like the easiest thing to do is find another non vanos intake cam and swap that into the exhaust side.

I heard you have to be really careful when timing it, thats fine.

I was thinking about doing this , but I don't see what anyone is doing for tuning options ?

Obviously MS is an option but thats not something I want to do right now.

Is it possible to run with a WAR chip, can you get a custom TRM chip made for the setup ?

Also I found in one thread, some guy was going to put S50 spec NV regrinds in his m50nv...

If I get the M50NV cams reground to S50 spec would it be worth the gains, if any vs just two stock M50NV intake cams?

I'm guessing it really depends on the tuning, and I'm hoping I can chip it instead of putting out the cash for a MS setup PNP or not.

Any ideas are appreciated, tried to search this stuff but many threads were left open I couldnt find anyone who actually finished their projects haha.

my setup now is a 90 325i E30 with m50NV - full exhaust no cats, lightened m20 single mass flywheel, no clutch fan. pretty basic and stock. no changes to ecu

I've seen some of your posts in the threads I searched. I wish the people that run a hot cam setup would give some input.

Two Intake cams or an Exhaust S50 cam. They are both 240 degree this will give the desired effect you are looking for.

PeteD finished his 3.0L NV in the fall ask him. I had one awhile back in a 2.8 variant nice engine. It's strictly engine so this is why many use the head for the bigger valves and double springs for forced induction applications. The NV blocks are thicker as well.

The vanos came about because of emissions.

This is correct per my findings; therefore no need to grind the cams. The software i do not know.

I'm using an NV and adapting a VANOS with some S50 cams and a TRM off the shelf chip expecting around 205 WHP

I got an intake NV cam-ligfters and tray if you need one $135 + shipping

The intake NV cams are 240 degree, which is agressive compared to the cams on other M5X engines.

BUT S50 / S52 cams are even more agressive

what im asking is, is it worth regrinding the cams to be S50 spec , or will i not see any worthwhile gains?

            M50NV is

            Intake Camshaft: 240-degree Duration/9.7mm (0.381″) lift.

            Exhaust Camshaft: 228-degree Duration/9.7mm (0.381″) lift.

and i found S52 cam specs are

            276/.430(in) and 272/.420(in)

I really gotta figure out the software, others can't possibly be running two intake cams with stock software? i mean it would probably run but there would be a lot to tune for, no?

I found a lot of good info here

Definitely interested in this. I've got to yank the head on my nv and I've considered a delta regrind since they're real close by.

I got a quote from a member on here to regrind my cams for $350 plus shipping both ways of course...

So if I do go with that, i have to make sure it makes sense... otherwise I rather just save the 400 bucks and run dual intake cams and be happy.

Wow. Delta cam charged me $90 for my m20 regrind when I gave them a core. With no core it was $140?

yeah i have no idea what a fair price is, I thought it was a little high but didnt want to complain thats why I put it out there to see if i got any reactions.

its 350 for both camshafts ground to S50 spec if that makes any difference...

I think what I will wind up doing is getting a WAR chip... i just hope there is some base tunes for the cams, I have ZERO experience in tuning but I can figure it out with friends i guess.

Looks like this will be another thread without answers.

I put a offer in on a s52 couple weeks ago that just got accepted so looks like I'm selling my entire m50nv swap as is without messing with the cams.

Going to pick it up tomorrow

Oh well sorry future searchers haha
