    Why e21 trany mounts?

It been a while since I've done any work on my swap and its about time to get back into it. So whats the story on e21 tany mounts; are they stiffer, or do they have different dimensions? Also does anyone know if 318is' uses different trany mounts then 325i's? Thanks

Bump: I'm also curious about this question. I see that e21 tranny mounts are recommended but i dont see why. Don't see why e30 moutns cant be reused

The E21 trans mounts are way larger in diameter than the E30 trans mounts, and they are cylindrical. The E30 trans mounts are hourglass shaped and are more susceptible to flexing when the car is side loaded. This is also true of the E36 trans mounts, and is one of the reasons why people moneyshift E36s.

I think only the 4 bangers have 'hourglass' shaped mounts. The M20 uses straight mounts. Though the older mounts are beefier.
