    non vanos stroker Q's

I want info on a non vanos m50 using different cranks, rods, cams to build somewhat of a stroker with stock parts from other motors.I know it has been done and there is some informatin here and there that i have found but i want to know first hand from someone who has done it what the costs were, what parts they used and what kind of power they got out of it. Anyone that has any info on this or possibly a link to another site with some info on it would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

You mean bore out the non-vanos block to 3.2 and build the rest of the short block with S52 rods, pistons, crank?

Does all this fit with no other modification??? What do i bore it out to in order to get 3.2 liters? thanks for you help so far.

Well, this would just be the same as an S52, but some people find it cheaper to get a non-vanos block (basically free) and bore it out ($60-80). I'm not sure the exact amount you have to bore it.

to hot tank, bore and hone you're looking at about $150-200 depending on the shop.

you'll have to bore it 2.4mm to fit the 3.2 pistons. I know you can bore it to fit s50 pistons (+2mm), but I don't know about the s52 pistons for sure. I bet it'll vary from block to block, so it'd be a good idea to get the block first, have it inspected to see how much a machine shop is comfortable boring it.

worse comes to worse you make a 3.0 stroker like stu.

Seems to me like the main thing a nonvanos motor is worth is the head. Hot cams and double valve springs stock.

Keep in mind when building a motor, keep alot of money aside for the head- its where you make most of your power.

Bryson is doing the M50-->S52 block bore, so you can get the non-vanos to that size.

How much do the cranks, rods and pistons usually cost used?

I just picked up crank/rods/pistons for $500, but that was a steal.

                  How 'bout a non-Vanos 2.5 w/ an S50 crank?

Which rods are the best to use in a non-Vanos "stroker" w/ an S50 crank? I have heard that non-Vanos rods are particularly beefy in comparison to other M50 variants.

                      Let’s say you start with a non-Vanos M50.

And you have an S50 crank in your back pocket.

What’s it going to take to mate the two? Can you use the stock pistons and rods, or do you need to move to S50 pistons and rods?

Also – you are increasing stroke, but are you reducing the ability of the engine to rev to high RPM w/ minimal stress?

In order to use the s50 crank, you need the s50 rods. You'll have to get the pistons milled down to a suitable compression ratio.

The non vanos heads rock- you have a pretty good platform up top

As far as the bottom end goes, I'd go with s50 crank/rods/pistons, then bore the block out- it'll be cheaper and less of a headache then getting the pistons milled down, or getting custom pistons for the application. You'll also get a full 3.0L instead of the 2.9l.

                        thats my

Quick question... how much harder do you think it will be to pass emissions testing with this stroker??

                              posting for interest.

Clearance issues with the s50 or s52 bottom end internals and the non-vanos head? Any machine work needed aside from the boring?

Whats a cute lil combo like this good for?
