    S52 swap help. Thanks.

I do not know if this is alright but I posted this on e30 tech also. If you guys can help to it would be awesome.
I just picked up a beautiful s52 with 130000 miles on it for only 1700. I am swapping this into my e30 this summer before I go back to school. I am in a little time crunch because I have to be done by the end off August. I have most of the swap planned out and I know what I have to do but I still got some questions. I have been searching a lot but I just want to check with everyone I am doing it right.
I have all the swap parts that I need
My concern is the wiring because my engine is from an auto.
First off the computer I m getting reflashed by desert BMW.
Getting flashed to auto, delete rear 02, SAP, EWS, fuel tank sensor, muffler flap valve. This is what I have learned and is all I need.
What I am wondering is how do convert the auto engine harness to manual? I know I have to splice the plug to the trans so the car starts.
I need to get a fuel rail with a fpr on it. Can I use a m50 one with the s52 manifold because I have one.
I have searched a lot and think I am doing it right I just want to be 100% sure before I start because of the time I have.
    I will have more questions.
    Thanks everyone.

I think the FPR thing is being overcomplicated, just use what the s52 originally came with, the part number is 13311740281. You can find these easily on many wrecked BMWs (I paid 11 bucks for it) from the late 90's early 2000's. Just mount it on the chassis rail and plug your harness into it, much easier and cheaper than changing the fuel rail. Brua is right on with the Markert Motorwerks for the harness, it will save you tons of time. I originally had an auto harness (still do if someone needs it) but I went out and got a manual one as I was unsure of what wires to get rid of, also the manual one can be fit into the m42 wire cover on the fire wall with a little effort. PM I have a full parts list spreadsheet for 91 318is to S52 OBD2 conversion.

      Good Luck with the project.

For the FPR, you can use a 97 528i rail with FPR built into it, or just separate FPR on the return line with the s52 rail

Send the harness and ECU to Dave Markert, he can probably give you a combo deal and it'll be a hell of a lot faster than figuring it out yourself.

Sweet thanks everyone. You have answered my questions. But did I have everything right that I needed to get deleted on the ecu???

Don't know what kind of flywheel you are running but if you are using a lightweight one and have A/C you need to have them raise the idle speed A/C kickup for you in addition to the EWS, SAP, and rear O2 sensors.

              +1

I am currently finishing an s52 swap that uses his harness. Was plug and play and even labeled. Hooked it up, car started right up no hassle. Send harness to him, install s52 while he works on harness, install harness, and done.

I am liking this forum more and more. Thanks everyone. And yea I am planning on sending to Dave. But can he also reflash my ecu???
Jusr wondering what are the reasons of deleting the real o2 sensor and SAP? I know the reason for the ews but not the others.

There is no real reason to run a secondary air pump (it's purely an emissions thing) and you will get a check engine light if you don't have it programmed out. You can actually run rear O2 sensors behind your cats (if are running cats) but most on here don't and you will have a check engine light without them. You might even get one if you run cats w/ rear O2 sensors if don't run the stock E36 cats. I run cheap cats and they actually have the bung for the O2 sensors but I have them blocked off (the rear O2 sensors just monitor the cat efficiency, they don't effect performance).

Oh I get it now I think. Feel like a noob. So when it says to delete the real o2 sensor it is talking about any on the exhaust manifold. I thought it meant to delete the rear o2 sensor on the rear manifold. But I learned that is not correct.
Also could someone confirm that Dave can flash my ecu when I get my
                    Wiring harness done. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Markert Motorwerks is hooked up with TRM Tuning for ECU work http://www.racersmarket.net/ I'm using a TRM chip on my S52 OBD1

Sorry to thread jack, but can you simply run the SAP system if it is coming with your swap? I'm planning on having DesertBMW do the ECU flash for me.

Yes, just run the whole E36 SAP system. Don't worry about fuel tank pressure monitoring system, I can code it so that without it shows trough OBD2 port that you have it and fuel tank vapor is all fine and passing.
