My M50NV swap is running like dog poo and I've replaced damn near everything. I'm throwing codes for ALL 6 fuel injectors plus an "unknown fuel injector" code. At first I thought it had to be something else, but now I'm beginning to wonder if they problem is, in fact, the injectors.
1) Can I run M50TU fuel injectors in a non-vanos M50?
2) How often do fuel injectors gum up from sitting with no fuel in them? How long does it take?
So here's where I am right now - the engine is a "newly" assembled M50 with an old bottom end & fresh head. I did not do the assembly, my friend did, and he reports the compression was good on all 6. I'll check the compression again later. What I've done:
-Swapped all 6 coil packs for known working M50NV coil packs. Maybe a slight change.
-Unplugged each coil pack with the car running and observed little change. The misfire/rough idle appears to be random.
-"Rebuilt" the fuel injectors with new o-rings, new filters, and new pintle caps. See here http://www.rjnunnally.com/how-to-reb...uel-injectors/ I did not clean the injectors. I also broke two(?) of the old injectors and substituted known working M50NV injectors that I had laying around. These also throw codes...
-Installed new intake manifold & throttle body gaskets
-Swapped the MAF with another "known good" M50NV MAF from ebay
-Checked the grounding of the DME. It's perfect.
-Installed all new hoses to/from the ICV. The ICV seems functional, but I have two spares I can swap in, both known good.
-The TB boot is a Bav Auto boot - no leaks
-Checked the power brake booster for leaks, it's tight
-Checked the vacuum line on the FPR for fuel. It's dry.
-Installed a new, genuine Bosch O2 sensor
-Installed a new VR crank sensor
-Swapped DME for a known working 402.
-Checked for codes with the Peake tool. Pulled 29, 24, 04, 06, 20, 03, 05, and 21. They are codes for the MAF (unplugged during testing, idles the same), evap solenoid (deleted), and every fuel injector.
I think that covers most of it. The valve cover gasket looks like it's been reused, but I doubt it's leaking enough to be an issue. I will replace that when I get the chance. Got any more ideas?
