    Clutch help please

So this is in my e36 (sorry).

M50tu, getrag 250. Dual mass flywheel. Should I be able to move the front half of the flywheel while the rear half stays stationary? Does this indicate a bad flywheel because the sprigs in between are shot? Or is that what it's supposed to do? I only have experience with the single mass flywheels.

Should I convert to a single mass at this point? How would I go about doing that?

    Thanks guys.

I'm going to go ahead and say that it should most definitely not spin freely on itself.

It doesn't spin freely but with barely any force I can move it so there's no way that's correct. Hopefully just going to convert to a single mass setup. Just not sure what t/o bearing to run etc.

I plan to keep the getrag 250. Can I convert to a single mass setup or do I need to find another dual mass flywheel?

If you mark the outside of the flywheel surface and outside of the part that is stationary you shouldn't have more then 2" of play I remember correctly. Dual mass flywheels are amazing street driven and the weekend race car though.

I just installed a brand new dual mass flywheel on my s52 with a m3 tranny and there was a tiny bit of a "wiggle" between the two pieces. Now driving the car with no issues yes. Only 30 miles on the swap so far.
