How to i get the shift linkage off of the tranny

You need to try and remove the bitch clip or break it off. Thats the clip you see in the second photo. It's called a bitch clip for a reason. I recall Jordan saying that he made a special tool to remove it. I ended up using a long pry bar and a hammer to break mine off and just installed a new one after I was done changing all the bushings.

make sure its rotated correctly-

I have one of those S shaped screwdrivers that I pair up with a hammer- it works great.

Hahaah it is called the bitch clip, but MAGICALLY mine wasn't that bad to remove. I used a regular screwdriver and bent it up.

Ron Stygar has a writeup on how to remove it. If you understand how it's installed, it sort of helps you visualize how you need to push up on it, and where to push up on it. Good luck!

I removed it from underneath the car actually. I guess I got the perfectly sized screwdriver for the task...
