    Vanos Tool Drawings

I recently rented the tools to replace the vanos seals on my M50 TU. Before I mailed them back, I measure all of them and created some drawings to re-make them. Thought some of you might be interested.

I originally drew them in metric, but then converted everything to inches, so all the numbers are nominal metric numbers, despite the drawings being in inches.

From your knowledgeable standpoint, with those drawings, would it be cheaper to have a machinist make the components, or buy the set?

Good question... I paid like $120 or so for the Baum Tools.

For that price, it's likely cheaper to just buy them than have them made. If you can make then yourself though, all the better. That's what I plan to do.

Just a note, the "Cam Lock Blocks" as I called them are identical except for the one missing chamfer on one of the "towers" and the threaded hole in the bottom. Also, I didn't put a depth on that threaded hole. Just make it deep enough to thread a bolt into a decent ways.

Thanks. I used to work as a drafter, so I know quite a bit.

If you think that price is high, then I hope you have a real friendly machinist/cnc guy.

We had a bunch made here, but at the same time they were finished a bunch of chinese ones showed up the same time on ebay.

                              nice drawing !!

my local machine shop would probably get that made for me the same day I ordered.......cost would likely be about $350-400 though LOL. Thanks to bay area machine labor @ $100/hour.

camblock full set made in china was only $120 or so with the vanos movement tool and pin.
