Anyone tried using one of these coolant tanks?

It probably doesn't have clearance which is why nobody is using it, but maybe it can be remote mounted? My '91 318is doesn't have the mounting points for the 325 reservoir on the drivers fender. I don't like the old style 325 tank mounted on the drivers fender kind of hovering over the motor, and I don't really want to use an M3 expansion tank and run coolant hoses around the entire engine bay.

Just looking for some new ideas besides a $100 canton mecca aluminium tank

    Dave

edit: this one mounts on the passenger side of the radiator, so it shouldn't interrupt the intake setup. Can't think of anything that gets in the way on the passenger side...

You know, you can buy that bracket from BMW for about a dollar. drill a hole and mount it. That is what i would do, if my coolant resevoir wasn't already located there.

I actually agree word for word with Erik.

Drill the hole, mount the 325 tank. I got one w/cap/sensor/line for $17 shipped off Ebay. : )
Is it not gonna look sweet? That's a shame.

well with my ABS right there it just seems a little tight, I'm looking for a cleaner option, maybe I'll buy a side mount tank like in the link and see which one i like better and return the other one. Truth is though, it will work if I want to use it, right?

my car is a 91 318is. i just cut the mounting tabs from a 90 325is and had someone weld it on stock location on the fender. my coolant tank was held by zip ties before

                lol, that's fucking awesome.

first, you've got an older (pre 88 ) style bottle mounted where the late style bottle normally goes. Second, looks like you have a generic radiator cap on the overflow bottle instead of the plastic cap that normally comes on it.

Does it work? If it does - good for you man. Fuck pretty - cheap and working is way better ;)

Yeah lol, my old one was the m3 one which was similar to that, different than the post 88s. But I broke it. I just found that one floating around in my garage and it looked almost new, had that cap on it and I was trying to figure out what it was. I put it on the steel brush grinder thing and took all the lettering off it. I found out a couple days later it was a generic one, saw it at checker.

Anyways, it works fine, just dont have the level meter hooked up.

                    EDIT:

The only thing was, the only suitable place to run the overflow line points the hose directly infront of the driver wheel... I cant imagine that being to good to shoot coolant on my wheel while I am driving. Im going to get a long hose and try to make it go somewhere else.

Yeah lol, when I did the swap it was in the middle of jan. so I couldnt exactly powerwash the engine bay out. Once I get the exhaust on and its driveable I will start cleaning it up... that car needs a LOT of cleaning lol.
