    Motor is in...finally

Took a month or so, but that's because I did a lot of other stuff first. Blasted and painted entire E30 M3 suspension with all new bushings and wheel bearings and installed diff too. Had engine on stand for a month or so, prepped and painted the block, new waterpump, al. therm housing, some ltw pullies, some serious wiring harness rehab (cleaned the shit out of it for about two nights straight). Basically I spent a lot of time cleaning and making all these parts look nice. Scrubbed down all the engine covers and manifold too to make it look as new as possible. Skipped a few parts, but I'll get to them later. headers are not staying on, just left them there for now. Lots of other stuff done like 24lb injectors, euro HFM going on the car, ltw flywheel, and lots of other misc crap. 320i brake booster had absolutely ZERO clearance problems with the fins on the S50 manifold. I ground down a fin before the motor went in, but it didn't need it.

Pic was taken about 10 min after the motor was in, I placed the plastic covers on to see what it would look like. It's pretty exciting, should go together very quickly now. Just got to stop being lazy about the brakes. Need to clean and paint calipers, install new pistons and rebuild kit.

All E30 M3 suspension, brakes, steering rack, and subframes from the same car. M3 swaybars also because they were sitting around from out of my M3, and the car has Koni SA and H&R sport springs. Don't know how long those springs will stay in there, but I had them for now. Also, of course the S50 motor, gearbox, harness, and ECU all from the same car with 74k on it. 3.46 diff from E28 528e converted for E30 usage.

Looks good. Be sure to use the M3/318 wiring harness cover to clean up the wiring

        I was a bit confused... is this S50 going into a M3 or a 5 lug 318?

          5 lug 318, it'll be a multi-generational m3 hybrid of sorts I suppose

Good stuff man! I got my m3 wiring covers on the way, too. If you let that wiring harness cover sit on top of the fuel rail cover it will wear away the paint on it, so when you put the m3 wiring harness covers on, it will show.

Looks good, man. You're just a few steps ahead of me. I'm in the process of detailing the sh*t out of my engine bay...very tedious and boring. I'm almost ready to start putting things back together.

                Good work!

Nice work! How long has the project taken so far? It sounds like you have a lot of time invested.

I bought the car thanksgiving weekend, drove it for about 2 or 3 weeks and then started disassembly. I'd say I have about 5 good weekends worth of work on it. Most of the time has been spent rehabbing the suspension, painting it, and i think it took me the better part of a whole day to remove the old wheel bearings and install the new ones with the hubs. That was a pain the ass, but my friends hydraulic press definitely helped the process. I've also spent a lot of time waiting for parts as I have been ordering new fasteners on a bi-weekly basis.

And yes, it is a good feeling to finally see the motor in there. I've got a race on April 8, so hopefully I'll be able to drive it then. It's just a time distance rally, but I want to drive this car instead of my M3. We'll see what happens

When you do that, does it go over the black box that is already there on the harness? or do you gotta pop it off and hide it that way?

I was about to throw those chunks out!
