    M52 Swap help...Wont idle and revs on its own...

    My swap is a m52b28 obd2 car in a late model 91 318i..
    EDIT* Did switch out the ICV for a good one.

    The car on the initial crank jumps to 2k and will sit there for about 10 sec..Then it will start revving all the to 5k.

    After the first crank I cannot get the car to crank! Its like the engine is flooded. I can smell gas on my oil cap :( I changed it last night so dont worry :)

    I did do the e30 coolant temp on the head from Market Works and wired the #4 pin to the e36 pin 12. Both Brown/Violet..

    I found the plug on the e36 and cut all the wires but the brown/violet and plugged it into the e30 coolant sensor. Is that correct? Is it possible my dme doesnt know the temperature?

    This is driving me crazy because I want to drive it so bad!!

    I was was having the same problem with my s52 swap a while back and it checked everything and it turned out to be a massive vacuum leak. I did the getto test of sealing off all vacuum holes but brake booster and blew a cigarette smoke into it.
    The reason I feel this is your problem is because there is no way your engine can rev that high with out a lot more air and if you are not opening the throttle then where is it getting it from.

      Where was the vacuum leak?

      My thinking also was in order for the engine to rev it needs more air...

      If I pinch the fuel line I can almost get it to crank everytime also??

        I had a huge intake leak between my head and intake manifold. I would have never found this out with out my getto smoke test, which work prefect. Just find a friend that smokes and use him or you just do it.
        f I pinch the fuel line I can almost get it to crank everytime also??
        So you are saying that it will kinda start when you pinch the fuel line?
        What injectors are you running, are you running the remote FPR with stock fuel rail, or a fuel rail with the fpr made into it??

          Yes if I pinch the lines. Throttle wide open and turning engine over for like 20 sec. But it still jumps to 2k and eventually run it self out to 5k

            Ok I feel like you have a massive vacuum leak. I would test that next to find out and cross it off you list. There is just no way your engine could rev that high with out the throttle opened. There has to be a leak.
            So once is starts do you close the throttle and then it revs to 5K?

              No it will sit at 2k for like 30 to 45 seconds. Then it will gradually rev up...

                  I went back and replaced my e30 coolant temp with stock m52 temp...finally have a idle. The dme must not of been communicating so it thought it was -40 degrees outside. Which was flooding my engine :(

                  Since I don't have my e30 coolant plug plugged up. Do I just run a wire from sensor to cluster? Any easier ways??

                  I thought I could just run the brn/violet to the e30 coolant sensor and be done.

                    You have to still have an E30 cluster sender separate from the E36 ECU sender.

                      The e30 coolant temp is still mounted on the head. I just don't have it wired. How do I wire the e30 coolant temp to talk to the cluster?

                          Ah I see what your saying...that's getting done this week?

                          Any thoughts on how to get my obd2 diagnostic plug to communicate? Do I have to do some extra wiring?
