just wondering if the housing is the same e28 535i and the e30 325i. if so, how hard would it be to swap out the internals. the housing on the e28 one looks terrible alot of rust, the dirve flange metal dust cover is pratically gone from the rust eating it up.

yes it should be the same. The output flanges and the rear diff cover are different, but the housing itself should be the same. Just to give you an idea, I was quoted about $350 to swap out internal gears from one LSD diff to another. I thought that was a little high and I found a whole other diff from an E28 528e that I put into my car. It cost me less than $300 and is in excellent condition...
