    Which ECU/harness?

Just a quick question, ive seen alot of confusing info on this.

I have an m52b25, its OBD2 and i have the entire car, so i have the ECU and wiring harness for it. Im doing the OBD1 conversion however and i have a whole car that im pulling the OBD1 parts from...complete car....motor, ecu, harness and all. Do i need the ECU from the OBD1 car? or the ECU from the car the motor came out of? And which engine harness do i need to use? Ive seen that i need the ECU that came from the car the engine came from but then in addition to that info they were talking about keeping it OBD2 and having the ecu reflashed and the EWS removed so i thought "ok, im going to OBD1 so i dont think i can use this OBD2 ECU." But i cant really find any info on that. Thanks in advance for any help!

    OBDI harness needs OBDI ECU

    OBDII harness needs OBDII ECU

thanks for the reply! However, do i use the ecu and harness from the motor im putting in the car or from the OBD1 donor? Im thinking i use the harness and ecu from the car the engine came from right? And if so do i have to have the ECU reflashed to remove EWS and such or is it simply Just adapt the wiring harness to the C101 plug from the e30 and leave all the extra wiring (from the new ecu) unhooked?

Obdi I implies swapping to obdi I; you'll need harness, manifold, and ecu

          Thank you. Much appreciated.

Edit: actually.... I have another question now. My obd1 donor is non vanos. Is that an issue beings the motor I'm using is a vanos car? There won't be wiring for the vanos solenoid right? It almost seems like I need a vanos motor that's obd1 to get my obd swap parts from :/

You need a vanos motor, non vanos has a different harness and different/less sensors.

okay, sorry for all the questions, i just want to have this figured out before i dive in.

So to sum up, i need a vanos, OBD1 wiring harness and ECU (along with all the other obd1 parts of course) in order to put my motor in my e30, obd1 swapped.

Alright, thanks so much guys i really appreciate the replies.

                why even bother?

just throw in the OBD2 engine with all sensors attached and use the OBD2 brain. it does work just fine (as you have the entire crashed car and hopefully it is a running one)

you already have 2 dead cars feeding your one project car; is it really needed to have 3?

                so 1 e30+ 3x e36 = 1 e30?

                seems rather wasteful (of time)

Oh one of the e36's I bought for $200 just to part out. Didn't actually intend on using it as a parts car. But I don't need another car to source the wiring harness/ecu. I've already sourced those from the classified section here.

Also the reason I want to obd1 swap is for the extra HP. Putting the obd1 intake on makes it less restricted.

Down grading the brain to be stupider is not a power upgrade.

Change intake manifold to whatever desired; dme can stay same. Get the dme remapped to whatever you end up running

                    Using a 2.5l brain does not match the 2.8 engineas well as the smarter newer 2.8 dme. The injectors are also paired to dme;

m52 uses 21.5 lbs and m50 smaller injectors; displacement miss match is also an issue

Um. Its not a 2.8 m52. It's an m52b25. And why get a ecu remapped to be the same as a 413 red label when I could just get a 413? The only difference is I'd have all the obd2 sensors which I couldnt care less about. That's not gonna make the engine more powerful, just more complicated.

Also I made this thread to ask a question, not opinions. Do your car the way you want, I'm doing mine the way I want and just needed help figuring out what electronics I needed to do it that way. If you would do it different, good for you, go do it.

To be honest the amount of sensors is almost the same... But its up to you.

I fail to see how my feelings are even relevant to this conversation. All I'm saying is if you aren't answering my question just don't bother. I mean why come into my thread and just tell me I'm stupid for doing something a certain way. Its uncalled for and unnecessary. If you're not contributing, politely get the fuck out. And no further contribution is needed because my questions been answered so just let the thread die.
