My e34 has been acting up for a while now. Sometimes it will take a lot of cranking to start, or start, then immediately die, resulting in hard starting afterwards. This doesn't happen every time though, only once ever 5 times or so. The car also seems to be under powered from takeoff, with a surge in power at 4-5000 RPM. It seems to have started after replacing all the vacuum hoses and gaskets on the intake side of the engine, along with a new fuel pump, filter and all new fuel hose. That could just be coincidence though.
I started by replacing the vanos seals, but this didn't make much of a difference, if at all. I just replaced the o2 sensor, but nothing changed. Then after some reading, I'm suspecting coils. Checked the coils with an ohm meter and all of them measure 1-1.3 ohms. The Bentley says they should be 0.4-0.8. Are mine off enough to be "bad"? I'm wondering how accurate my meter is as well, it's just a cheapy. If the coils were cheap, I would just replace them, but at ~$50 each, I don't want to replace them for no reason.
The only other thing I can think of is a small vacuum leak, but since I just replaced everything that might leak, I'm skeptical.
