Please help me get my swap driving

So last week I tried to crank my engine for the first time and it cranked but didn't start. I figured it could have something to do with my tank having a mix of old gas and mid-grade... so i siphoned it all out and put some fresh 93 in with 2 lucas fuel injector cleaner additives and it still didn't start. Did a bunch of research and started troubleshooting it.. I had spark, and what seemed to be fuel at the intake line so I made some calls and was told to try replacing my CPS and since they are not super cheap I searched around and found a check, so I busted out my multimeter and it was reading 500+ ohms so i don't think it was the issue. My engine is out of a 1/95 model and as i searched more I found one link talking about 95 models not having a fuel pressure regulator at the rail but remote mounted and to try putting vice grips on the return line.. I did and she fired right up!! Now my issue is trying to find a 3.5 bar setup similar to the m20 one because I'm not about to try to drive around with vice grips on the return line.. or spend 150 on an aftermarket adjustable one.. Anyone else run into this?? What can I do to find an fpr cause everywhere i look it mounts into some shit i don't have...
    Thanks,
    Ryan

Car is an 84 325e with a engine harness and ecu from a 95 e36 vert. silver label has a trm chip and i made the adapter harness

I used a fuel rail from an early e39, I think 96 or 97 that had the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. I found it on ebay for $20. Look at the pictures for one that has the regulator, or go searching at the junk yard.

So before I buy this one off ebay

Where would the line coming off the regulator go to? Charcoal canister? Im assuming front is intake back is return correct?

That one is different than mine. The one I used had both the incoming and outgoing fuel lines on the back just like the stock e36 rail. I ran the line coming of the regulator to a small nipple on the underside of my manifold to provide vacuum pressure. I had an OBD2 manifold, so I'm not sure what and OBD1 has to connect to.

Edit: The one I used looked like this (But I didn't have to buy it from the UK)
