    M50/G40 x-member issues

'89 325i, '92 M50NV, '90-ish(?) G240, E36 engine mount arms, I believe E28 motor mounts, about a 3/4 inch spacer on the passenger side to help with exhaust clearance.

    Looks like that^^.

I've been told and read there only one crossmember. Both motor mounts and arms are sitting flush, without a smaller drivers side mount I don't see how it could go any lower. It's not binding on anything as far as I can tell.

What am I doing wrong? I've been advised to lift and resettle the engine, so far no luck.

Just went a snapped a few motor mount pics.
I shook the motor back and forth, it flexes the motor mounts both directions, doesn't seem to be binding on anything.

    Drivers side...

    Passenger side, with spacer...

idk why you have that gap, are you sure thats a g240? have the same exact gap as an g260

on a side note, your engine mounts (rubber) are upside down

Thats what I thought, and what I was worried about.

I did some research (since I know nothing about these things) and the easiest distinguishing factor I could figure was the Getrag cast on the drivers side.

            A G260 looks like this:

while a G240 is marked by the slave cylinder, like this...

Mine is marked as the second one is, by the slave. Also, bolted to the M50 my shifter is straight up and down, not tilted to the side.

OK, thats solved. I am an idiot.

Another question for the E30 transmision mounting Guru's....
Transmision mounts. They're identical, and indexed. If I allign them with the tangs on the transmision crossmember, they wind up with one upper alignment pin forward, and one aft. Is this normal? The option would be to install the passenger side mount indexed 180 out, leaving the upper alignment pin to the aft, which appears correct, but then the tang on the crossmember would not engage.

Does any of that make sense?
