Need E34 to E30 compatibility help..

I purchased a running E34 525i to swap its drivetrain into my 89 325i. Im gathering parts, as well as information. I already figured out wiring, mounting, and everything else, but since im using the E34 transmission, i cant find solid information on a couple of things.

What driveshaft do i use?

What shifter assembly do i use?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Do those use the getrag 250? If so I'm pretty sure you use the linkage from the transmission you're using.

I really dont know what they use, some people say the 250, some people say the ZF. Just trying to get some answers so i can get the correct parts ordered!

as far as I know the non vanos ones uses the ZF

The E34 that i pulled the motor from was a 1994 and it has VANOS..

Im going to assume that you will use the driveshaft out of the 525i. Im not 100% sure on that, but I am pretty sure you will use the 525i DS. As far as the linkage, also use the one from the 525i. Im guessing though, but as a general rule, use the Driveshaft that comes with the transmission you are swapping in.

I was just under the impression that since the 525i is a longer car, the driveshaft would not fit my E30..

Hmmm... it might not. If you are using a M50 and Getrag 250, then an E36 manual driveshaft will work. I'm not sure if they are the same as the DS from the 525i. A search on realOEM or Pelican parts should tell you.

I have an e34 drivetrain in my e30, i used the shifter linkage from my stock e30 trans and i just shortned the e34 shift support rod because i have the tools to do so but the e30 one may bolt on to the e34 trans..
For the driveshaft i used the Revshift adapter guibo and kept my e30 driveshaft.. Way easier then trying to piece together driveshafts or find the correct e36 one

ZF but that stuff should be the same for both trannys id imagine
