    Its officially Blown

So my moms E36 M52 has a blown head gasket. So now i may be looking at a cracked head. Im kinda hoping its a cracked heaqd so i get the car but i also just want it to be just the head gasket so my mom has her car. She loves this car. As far as this M52 is concerned what would you guys do with a $1500 budget realistically. Cause thats all that i have to fix this car. I was thinking on getting an M3 head and S52 rotating assembly have it inspected by a machinist and throw it all into the M52. Is that a reasonable option seeing how the whole engine would be $2,500.00?

    Nope.

Expect $1500-2200 for a head job. I'd expect around 4k for the parts and dropping stuff in.

I have picked up multiple m52's at $650 or so, buy a longblock, put maint. items on the outside, and then you have an m52 core to build up for yourself.

I fixed the cracked head on my M52 for around 600-700 IIRC. 500 of that was for head work. Its not hard to DIY just fallow the steps outlined at pelican parts or the bentley manual. Label all connectors and you should be fine. The hardest part for me was reinstalling the vanos system. I had to watch the video like 10 times to get all the steps down.
