    S52 Swap: Diff Question

    I searched this forum for answers but some of the related posts went on tangents so I'm posting a new one specific to my situation:

    1. I'm doing an S52 swap to an E30 M3. I have the entire 96 E36 M3 5-speed donor car.
    2. My E30 M3 is missing the differential and axles.
    3. I think my stock E36 M3 driveshaft can be used but I don't know which diff to purchase. I do not have any extra input or output shafts from the E30.
    4. Considering that I will be getting a new differential, which axles to buy?

    Thanks in advance.

    Does the e36 driveshaft have the 4 bolt rear flange? If so you can use that with the e36 trans. Get a medium case E30 differential with the 325/m3 e30 axles.
    For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!

      Im about to do the same thing. I have a 3.73 medium diff, and the 3.23 e36 M3 diff. Can i swap the internals from the 3.23 into the E30 diff relatively easily, and use the E30 ouput flanges as well? I saw something about it, but nothing definite. If nothing else, Im going to go with a 3.15 diff from an E34 or E28. I cant remember which.

        E30 body = e30 rear subframe = e30 rear iron case diff.

        the E30 188mm iron case is shared with e36/7 (z3), e28, e24, e23.

        e36 sedan/coupe use a different case.
        e34/32 use a different case

        e30M will want e30 188mm CV shafts and 188mm e30 diff and e30 diff cover.
        E30 CV shafts are 84mm cv diameter; stubs must match also.

        e30M shares these above parts with 325i/e usa: iron diff case housing, 25% zf lsd, 188mm ring and pinon 4,10 (same as any automatic 325), cv stubs and axles

        diff case you will need a 188mm e30 diff case; internals can be fitted from the e36 188mm.

        ring and pinions and LSD units interchange;
        all e30/36/32/34/28/24 188mm diff internals interchange;
        E36M cars have M14 bolts on ring gear and LSD clearance holes for M14.
        OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

        Z4 non powered steering rack fits e30

        Euro e46 2005/6 320d 6mt gearbox into E30 with M20 hardy and beck 1985 327s engine
