    my 325e M50tu project

    Hello everyone,
    Salut!
I'm Nate and this is my e30 24v. I just got the sachs clutch kit in and an SKF pilot bearing.

    This engine/drivetrain has had:
    New VCG
    Oil filter housing gasket
    M50tu auto harness
    413 red label ecu
    e36 mount arms
    e28 engine mounts
    e21 trans mounts
G260 & 5spd driveshaft (commonly called small guibo DS?)
New TOB and fork spring + pivot pin
A full but careless cleaning with Mean Green
    New Waterpump (metal impeller)
New 80*C Tstat and metal tstat housing
New Waterpump Pulley (plastic like replacement; factory was metal)
M20 FW shaved, resurfaced/balanced with new 28mm FW bolts + Threadlock
Raceland headers w/ new Victor Reinz gaskets
    New exhaust studs and nuts
New coolant drain plug and washer, which was impossibly hard to find anybody sell this part number!!!
    VC painted high temp red
Beauty covers black and red stripes

    I haven't installed yet:
    G260 to engine
full install e36 arms and raceland headers
    clutch kit or FW
or rear main seal and pilot bearing
    late model m20 starter
new injector orings and intake manifold gaskets
    new ICV connector
    cleaned ICV
    cleaned TB
    move booster over 1/2"
    wiring

Money that still needs to be spent:
    Full exhaust
    02 sensor
    Full Synthetic 5w-40 oil
    Peak Coolant
    vacuum hoses

I just finished putting The exhaust studs in and before I torque the raceland headers on I can't decide if it's going to work. I'll post more pics when I have the time. I was just wondering what people thought about where my e36 arms are, not positive it can go anywhere but where I've placed them.

Thoughts on arms and if the headers look like they will clear?
Can anyone else confirm that I need (8x) M8x1.25x26 bolts with washers to install the engine arms properly?

Here's my e34 just to put it out there. I cleaned all the blood off, though!

lol it was for halloween a couple of years ago. I don't do that kind of Pagan stuff anymore, but it's still neat looking. It was just food coloring and water splashed around. I don't have many pics of the e34

            here:

            happy? lol

            but seriously a quick update:
The engine is going to come off the stand and get the FW and everything on tonight with new clutch. I'll put G260 on before I torque those nuts for headers on to make sure I'm not going to have the clearance issue. I'm thinking I will and will either seriously heat and bend the headers or buy others. If I could find the stock ones I'd use them.

Good luck on the swap, looks like you're making great progress!

I didn't get anywhere near as much done as I'd like. First I had a bit of a problem with torquing down the engine mount arms since I figured out they were in the correct position to mount into e30.

                Untitled by N.b.A.m.T.w.E, on Flickr

Yeah not pretty. I was trying to overtorque them so I decided 23ft/lb was better than 31ft/lb lol.

Next I took about an hour cleaning the stuck on gasket from the rear head coolant elbow.
It says to torque it to 17ft/lb but that felt like way too much considering the noise it starting making. I got it as tight as I felt it needed; no anywhere near 17ft/lb.

Went to NAPA and got me a new e30 temp sensor and put it in the middle plug. Also I'm not going to run a line to the TB, so I closed port off with my old eta temp sensor!

I started to put the alternator on and came about a new problem that my 15 searches show no matches to. I have a 140amp Bosch off my e34 b/c I put another one on it. Well it won't fit onto the lower mount as shown here:

                Untitled by N.b.A.m.T.w.E, on Flickr

So now what lol. This engine is from a 93 525i and the alternator is from a 92 525i. They are both factory Bosch 140amp and mount to block and tensioner pulleys are the same on both engines...
So I'll be figuring that out before I move forward. Oh and I determined I'll need to by new headers. They're only 100 bucks so it's not too bad. I'll but the other raceland 4 pc that have been shown on my e34. No loss!

EDIT: I suppose I could just trim down the alternator mount eh?

What grade is the bolt you snapped for the mount? I'd want at leats an 8.8 bolt holding in my engine.

As for the alternator, I would modify the alternator that way if you have to replace it again you won't have a loose fit. It should fit on there as in though...

You don't have to trim it, that is a sleeve or roll pin pressed into the alternator. Simple put a C clamp on it and press it in further. Used a socket on the other side if needed.
                    Good looking engine BTW
