Deleting P/S and A/C, pulley selection..

I want to place this order now from pelican and the car I'm working on is across the river, refreshing the M50TU (from a 93 325IS) and a bit confused to what retained secondary pulleys I need to purchase... here's a link to the pelican page where the pulleys are:

    http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...28-M40make=BMW

Without A/C and P/S, which Idler/tensioner pulleys do I need to replace that needs to stay for the Alternator and Water-pump? Do I need to replace belt with something shorter?

Out of curiosity are you going to be running a manual rack in your delete as well, using a PS rack without the pump will destroy it in short order and it is much more difficult to turn than a stock manual rack

I have an E36 M3 rack I got cheap, I was planning on filling it up with Auto-trans fluid and use a bypass block.. . are you saying the pinion and joints to the column will torque too much? is there a part number/application to a manual rack?

Lots of people just run PS delete plates on powered racks, making them pseudo manual. Not sure anyone's reported rack damage. Could see how no fluid in the rack might effect the rack.

If rack is decent should live as you want to run w/ bypass.

If a OEM Bmw application Manual steering rack is the goal then you can just purchase one designed to be ran without hydraulic fluid; Z4 all non-m cars have this.

It's a great fit into a e30; a few threads on the Z4 rack swap- fits in just same as the 36 you have sans any hydraulic lines.

Here's how mine is run with no power steering. Single mechanical tensioner pulley. The belt is OE Continental mini cooper S belt. Pelican part #11287520199

Also note that if you're removing the A/C and want to remove the pulley from the crank. You'll need a spacers to compensate for the pulley width otherwise the bolts will dig into the block

Perfect! thank you... good call on the spacers, I do have access to a selection of same thread SS Allen bolts in different lengths too but haven't decided whether to keep the pulley or take it off, I will be replacing the front main seal so .... do I need to lock down the flywheel before putting an impact on the big center crank pulley bolt out?

Nope, you don't need to remove the large center bolt, just the 6 smaller ones.

Likely is just seized on. Here's what you'll be left with once it's off.

Thanks... you know I just went through your build page by page and I'm very impressed, I'm in the same situation living in Windsor and the car is 40 miles N of Detroit... going with the F1 OE clutch/Chromoly flywheel set up with the G250... which seems fine...

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I had to sell my setup, the flywheel won't fit into the g240 I ended up using.

i did the same thing on my M50, deleted the PS and AC. i took the old belt put it in position and fixed it with a vise grip, took that to the dealer and he found me the correct lengt belt (sry i don't know the partnumber any more since my swap was like 3.5yrs ago)

i used a E36 powersteering rack and i loved the feeling of it. it was kind of a go-kart-ish feeling, but not that hard to steer (only if standing still)
