I guess the redline is supposed to be 7200 but, in all honesty, I am not looking at the tach when i have bounced it off the limiter.
Yours should be fairly accurate b/c you didn't use a s14 cluster.

325Project is right about the s14 cluster with the m20 6 cylinder coding plug.

"So you need a 6 cyl coding plug, but problem is, bmw never made a 6 cyl coding plug for a 8k tach. If you put the 7k 6 cyl coding plug (325i) in it, at redline, which is 8k, the engine will really be at ~7k. You can switch the gauge face back to a 7k tach (thats no fun though) and it will be spot on."

It's the problem i have with my car: redlines at 8k but really at 7k. Like mentioned, I wonder if that m5 coding plug will work...hmmm...

Can you buy the plugs at the dealer?

        Yes I have done it

All you need is a 325i(is) coding plug. Just pop the 4 cyl one out and press the 6 cyl one in.

You "can" use the 325e's coding plug, but it will be off a bit.

I have a E30M3 cluster with M50 and it seems that the speedo readings are also inaccurate, along with the tach's.

The speedometer gets its signal from the sensor in the diff- the engine swap has no effect on it.

yep, same with every e30 i have owned.....all 9 of them. the speedo is always "optimistic" with its reading.

with the obc timer, i can figure out the exact speed. cliff notes........set cruse, time (in seconds) how long it takes to drive 2 miles (using the mile markers.) divide 7200 by time.....thats your speed.

speedo says 80, im actually going 77.0 with 225/40/17's.
speedo says 80, im actually going 76.5 with stock tire diameter.

                cheers, jason
