    zf shift kit

I've been looking into shift kits for my m52/zf swap and could use some input. It seems The best linkage is from an e36 328/m3. I emailed auto solutions asking about pricing and availability also mentioning it was for and swap and this was part of his response.

This said, are you sure this is the Ultra kit you need. In the past, I thought the correct shift mechanism was a hybrid kit using shift arm from one car and selector rod from another. Its been a while so I do not recall exactly but on the other hand I do believe I have sold the shifter you refer to several times with that conversion in mind. I just want you to be sure. Keep in mind that the body of the e36 is longer than that of the e30 and that therefore the e36M3/328 bracket may position the shift lever a bit too far back. Installations like this one have been done and it is matter to find a reliable source from someone that has done it using the parts you are using.

Has anybody found a better setup mixing and matching components from different cars or are the e36 shift kits the way to go? Also any good or bad reviews on the auto solutions or rogue ssk?

I got my zf from an e39 with no linkage so I need the whole setup. I figure I'm already spending way too much on this project I might as well spend a little more and get a nice shift kit.

Pretty much all BMW shifters are interchangeable. You should be able to use an e30 shift carrier and then whatever shift lever you want. The Z3 is a popular one. UUC sells a DSSR that helps tighten things up as well, but it gets a bit pricey.

Here is a picture comparing a few different shift levers:

    Here is another:

The longer the arm below the ball, the less travel the shifter will have, but the hard it will be to shift. The length above the ball will have some effect on how hard it is to shift, but will mostly be a feel thing as far as how tall it is.

I've actually got a 2.5 z4 rod in my car right now if I remember correctly. From what I've read the e30 carrier is almost too short and I just wanna make sure everything is right with this build. I'm going to have almost triple the factory hp output of the car and don't want to worry about my shift linkage being proper.

Anybody else? If you have an aftermarket ssk in your car which one is it and how do you like it?
