    Anyone using an oil cooler??

I've got a line on a E30 m3 oil cooler. Not sure how it would mount up on a 318is but I'm just wondering how many of you are running oil coolers. This is a street car for the most part, some drivers schools and probably some auto-x as well. Is it necessary? Do e36 m3's have oil coolers?

I have a euro oil filter housing that I'm going to be running on my S52. I have a spare oil cooler that I'm going to have AN10 fittings welded on and steel braided lines running to the filter housing, which will also have AN10 fittings. That way, you have a oil cooler that mounts in the factory location.
E36 M3s in the US didn't come with oil coolers, but they need them, especially if you run them on the track.

I havent seen any that do.

Blunt has one but its some super pimp baller one. You can hit him up but IIRC its a pretty custom setup.

All he has is a 20 row Earls cooler and some brackets a friend made that fit the cooler in front of the radiator.

that's what I was thinking. Put it in front of the radiator and knock out the black plastic filler strip in the front of the bumper (91 318is).

summit racing, I bought all my AN fittings from there and a few other parts I used during the swap. Great service and fast shipping too, for you it's no brainer, I think they're in ohio

I don't see a clear answer of the question of if one is necessary on a daily driver that might be tracked a couple time but maybe not?

On a dd, its probably not necessary, nor is it probably necessary if you do track days in milder climates. In Northern California, where the summer temps get over 100 degrees, an oil cooler is very necessary if you want to do track days and don't want to cook your oil. The oil in my 00 M Coupe would hit 290 to 300 degrees without an oil cooler in the summer at the track, which is way too hot, even for synthetic. Oil is close to breaking down at those temps.
