    m50 with g260+flywheel+starter not engaging

My m50 with g260 and m20 clutch/pressure plate/(shaved) flywheel/starter is in my car and bolted together. When I wired it and attempted to turn the motor over to check my wiring the engine won't spin. We looked and the starter gear is hitting the flywheel face and not engaging the teeth like it should. Does anyone have experience with this and can someone tell me what I've done wrong?

    Thanks so much in advance.

is the starter a known working unit? I have had a similar issue on a m20 the starter motor would spin but wouldn't crank the car over. you can pull the starter and bench test it with a battery and a vice, inspect for broken or stripped teeth.

It came straight from my m20 to my m50 when the trans went on. The start is spinning and the solenoid is pushing the gear out into the flywheel but the gear is just hitting the face of the flywheel and not engaging the teeth

The starter needs to be raised/re mounted. if you look at the end of the starter you can probably see a shinny spot where it is trying to drill a hole in the ring gear. Did you use the sheet metal 'plate' between the eng/trans ? I can't remember if the alignment dowels in the block/transmission work with the rotated 260
The sheet metal pc fits tightly over the dowels and the bore for the starter locates it more accurately than just the starter bolts/ holes. Pls do not ask how I know this but I got reaaaly good at removing the intake manifold

I used all M20 bolts the starter doesn't care just bolt it on
if you use the plate without the dowels it will most llikely be to low so you can loosen trans and reposition it or grind/dremel out the sheet metal till the starter fits

Yeah that plate acts like a shim and lines starter up.
