    S50/S52 oil filter housing

    Hi all
I don't post often but read most post on DOHC swaps.I have done several M50. I'm Getting a '98 M roadster 3.2 prepped to swap in to my '91 cabrio soon.
My question is, can I swap a '95 S50 oil filter housing on to the S52 block? Look the same except for the sensors.S50 has one, and S52 has two. I would like to use the S50 housing if possible. Hope I can attach pics. Housing on Lft is S50

    Thanks for any'all help

Can some host pics for me? Tried uploading , but no go !

two sensors? which ones are you talking about? i have only seen the oil pressure light swith.

but yes, they are the same.....except some m52's had the plastic screw on oil filter cap in lieu of the metal / long bolt cap.

        S52 oil filter housing

The sensors on back of housing are for Oil Pressure and Oil temp.

I have a s50 and a m3 cluster (with oil temperature). I am looking for a good mounting location for my oil temperature sender. It looks like from your pictures that a s52 oil housing will provide a mounting location for my oil temperature sender.

            Any thoughts?

Do you still have that s52 housing that I could take off your hands?
            Thanks
            Tom

              Lino,
Can you post a picture that shows where do the oil cooler return pipe attaches to (front and rear view please)?
I'm wonderring if (and how) the stock M50 housing can be tapped to accept the oil hooler hoses.
              Thanks,
              Avner.

the euro s50/s52 has stock oil cooler ports with a built-in thermostat. no u.s. version has the oil cooler ports or thermotat. the easiest way to get an oil cooler on the car is probabily the VAC filter-cover-adapter-thingie with in-line thermosat. or, you could buy the euro filter housing and get the a/n adapter from TMS. or, (rumor has it) you could use an s54 one, drill /tap the vanos port and buy the TMS a/n adapter.

                cheers, jason

Yes the VAC units seem like an easy route to take .
Although they might be a bit pricey to some .

I'd like to hear more about this oilfilter housing cap as seen in the engine bay thread :

Now this would really be the ticket fot those wanting to cobble up their own lines and cooler .

Oh and guys , Lino has since abandoned and sold all of his engine parts since his Vert was totaled out .

I used a euro S52 Euro oil filter housing. Very easy to tap the cooler lines, I used a 3/8NPT Earls fittings to 10AN (possibly 12 AN cannot remember). Tap for the vanos line, and done. The turner A/N is only needed if you do not have a 3/8 NPT tap.

The VAC shows 2 types of units:

                      "E36 Modified Oil Filter Housing"
                      "OEM Housing"

I'd love to know how do the modify the E36 housing (assuming it is a strock housing not an Euro M3 one).

The OEM housing comes with the adapter plate.

The E36 modifed housing probably comes with drilled and tapped 3/8NPT to AN fittings (as I did).
