    Is a e34 525 sump required for m52 528 conversion

I'm currently doing an e39 528i engine conversion in my e30, I have read on various sites that the sump on the m52 b28 will need changing for an e34 525 sump along with the pickup pipe and dipstick.

Firstly, why do I need to?

Secondly is there any chance I could weld/modify the m52 sump, what's it made out of?

You need it to clear the subframe on a typical 24v setup, not sure how the e39 is setup, haven't looked at one before.

Yeah, that's what I imagined, it's the same m52b28 that's in the 328 so. I'm guessing it will need it
